This Special Event Takes Place @ The Club at Andrews Air Force Base, Camp Springs, Maryland

Keynote Speaker

Major General Errol R. Schwartz

Commanding General, Joint Force Headquarters

District of Columbia National Guard

General Schwartz was appointed to serve as the Commanding General of the District of Columbia National Guard by President Bush in June 2008.  He was reappointed by President Obama in January 2009

He is the highest ranking individual, and of Caribbean descent to serve in the District of Columbia National Guard  providing real time indications and warnings of all cyber incidents that may affect the United States National Security Information Systems.

He is admired by the soldiers and airmen he leads. “His passion not only rests in the well being of his soldiers and airmen, but he finds himself wrapped up in the community dealing with civic leaders as it relates to the youth in the District of Columbia and is a very active member in the Youth Challenge program- a program that gives high school drop outs a second chance."

The Caribbean Students' Scholarship  Fund, Inc.  ("CSSF")

The CSSF was officially launched in 2004 by the Trinidad and Tobago Working Women´s Committee, with the understanding that it is more important to give than to receive and bearing in mind that our youth is the future of the world.

The Caribbean Students Scholarship Fund, Inc. provides an opportunity to invest in the education of our community´s youths.

The Fund offers scholarship assistance to students of Caribbean descent who reside in the Washington metropolitan area (Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia) and to students who have demonstrated financial need. Scholarships are offered to students who are high school seniors and full-time undergraduate and graduate students.

Funding comes from a variety of sources. The majority of our funds are raised by activities hosted by the Working Women´s Committee. In addition, contributions and donations are made by individuals and businesses. CSSF, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt organization. (CSSF, Inc. does not solicit on-line donations).

The Fund is run by a Board of Directors, Annette Achille, President, Patricia St. Hill, Vice President, Patricia Phillip, Secretary, Victor Gamaldo, Financial Advisor.  The Fund also has an Advisory Board made up of outstanding citizens of the community, Dr. Desiree DeFlorimonte (educator), Mr. Ian Bain (retired counselor) Chief Winfield St. Hill (retired Air Force) and Mr. Victor Gamaldo, (Financial Advisor)

CSSF, Inc. is a great benefit to non-Caribbean people who desire greater knowledge of the Caribbean Community..

A special note from Deanne Samuels Chairperson of Trinidad & Tobago Working Women's Committee

When the scholarship program was incorporated in 2003, we the members of the Working Women's Committee never thought that eleven years later, we would still experience anxiety before each event.

Each banquet brings a new experience and that experience is usually an encounter with an exceptional student or simply put, exceptional students.

I speak for the women of this group when I say the greatest joy and satisfaction we feel is when our scholars communicate with us to say thank you or to give us a progress report. When this happens we look at each other and say," we did what we intended to do". Lesa Noel, brought us a donation from her first pay check and hasn't stopped donating since graduating from college; Novella Smith came back and spoke to the class of 2012; Sabrina Aaron, a 2nd year biology major at Howard University still talks about the benefits of her scholarship; Kafi Kareem class of 2008, is an associate producer at Disney Interactive in Los Angeles, Kashanna Fair, when not studying would volunteer at many of our events, Samantha DeWars is interning in South Africa this summer and Jade Warner Parker graduates this summer from the University of Virginia majoring in English with a minor in Media Studies.

There are many things we are grateful for; the support of our advocates and the community. Over the years, we have given thousands of dollars in scholarships to over 40 students--this would be an impossible task without the continued help from community businesses and individuals such as you; platforms like Arious Entertainment, Tony Carr of WPFW and John Blake of WHUR a constant help in getting the information into the public air space, on our behalf.

This year's theme speaks for itself, "Inspiring Endless Possibilities". I humbly encourage the public to join us on Saturday, May 3rd at 6p.m. at Andrews AFB, and see the difference your contribution will make in a young person's life.

Thank You

The Trinidad & Tobago Working Women’s Committee:

A Beacon of Hope for College Bound Students of Caribbean Heritage

Stalwarts and proactive citizens of the community, The Trinidad & Tobago Working Women’s Committee, have been making a significant impact in the lives of young men and women of Caribbean ancestry for the past eleven (11) years.   As a member of the Board of the Caribbean Students’ Scholarship Fund, Inc. (CSSF), I have observed the incredibly and inspiring passion the ladies of the committee have demonstrated in promoting and raising funds toward a successful scholarship program.   It has been impressive to note their drive, enthusiasm and dedication to awarding needy and meritorious students a means of receiving some financial assistance with college obligations.

The Committee is to be congratulated for working arduously throughout the years despite the obstacles they have encountered.  Their commitment propelled them to rise to the occasion every time and they continue, with support from the community, to be a beacon of hope for promising scholars.   Donors, who provide magnanimous gifts would definitely keep scholarship opportunities available.   Even the smallest contribution will enable the Committee to support future scholarship recipients.  I am truly honored to serve as an Advisory Board Member and pledge my continued support to the Committee, in order to further enhance the mission of CSSF, Inc.
