June is National Caribbean American Heritage Month (NCAHM).

A month dedicated to commemorating, and celebrating Caribbean-Americans for their enduring achievements; as well as  recognizing their culture, rich heritage, and history.

This June month has been very busy for many due to countless number of events taking place in and around the community (locally) here in DC, Maryland, and Virginia celebrating Caribbean-American Heritage Month.  I imagine it has been the same in every state, as well as across the nation.

Disappointingly due to time constraints I have not been attending, nor participating in all the events as I have done in past years; but the many my husband Todd and I made time to attended have been interest and truly worthwhile.  And I am very happy that we made the time to do this; in fact I am pleased that we made the time to do one of the many important things we are passionate about...indeed getting out in the community is one of our passions, and is gratifying and enjoyable.

Gosh, meeting and greeting so many of our friends (on-line friends and family) has truly been sensational.  Most importantly, the conversations have been thought provoking, interesting, rewarding, extremely motivating, and many have left both Todd and I smiling broadly.

Every individual I/we spoke with took the time to express their appreciation for what we have been doing with our Arious Entertainment Group eNewsletter "Arious Grapevine"; [LOL, although not as detailed and frequent as in the past.]  A large number of folks stated they enjoy the eNewsletter greatly, and absolutely look forward to receiving them.  A few openly shared with us that they hope we will "get back on the ball" with the writing, and sharing through the eNewsletter.  Additionally, many simply and earnestly said "Thanks, I got your eNewsletter and saw all the details about this event, plus all the others; and see...I'm here!"  Hahaha, a few even stated they live vicariously through us...through our experiences, and excursions, etc.  WoW...so very encouraging and impressive!

I want to take this time to thank all of you for sharing your thoughts with us, and letting us know that you appreciate us...sincerely appreciate us and what we do.  Please know that your positive feedback is very appreciated.  Thank you...Thank you...Thank you, we deeply appreciate all the kind words and encouragement .  Indeed without you and your support there is no us.

This Sunday, June 29th a very special event takes place locally, Caribbeana Communications Inc. Comedy Festival "Laugh Out Loud", and I encourage you to attend.

Caribbeana Communications Incorporated (CCI) is a nonprofit media and membership organization headquartered in Lanham, Maryland of the  Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. It is one of the few Caribbean organizations based in the United States that serves all individuals interested in Caribbean culture and its Diaspora through media, technology and journalism

Currently, CCI manages and produces a three hour weekly radio program called Caribbeana.

This program provides pertinent news from and  about the Caribbean as well as about the Caribbean Diaspora throughout the world. Caribbeana presently airs on WPFW 89.3 FM in the  Washington, D.C. market and is a central authority on Caribbean culture of past to present exposing anyone to Caribbean music, news, and  culture. To listen to program podcasts, click here. We also produce Caribbeana's Comedy Festival, an annual event that provides entertainment  through laughter and Extempo, a musically entailed art form of the Caribbean.

Our Organization represents a future conglomerate of educational, entertaining, and enlightening services that will be offered through radio, television, print media, journalism, the arts, new age technology, and more.  Our organizational goals include improvint and establishing five premiere programming and service divisions focused on:\ Media Broadcasting.Entertainment Production, Media and Cultural Institute (CMCI), Media Convention (CMC), Electronic Publication

Caribbeana Comedy Festival:

The Comedy festival first started in 1988, not long after the inception of the local DC Caribbean Carnival on the historical campus of Howard University.  The concept originated with a Trinidadian colleague of Von, Paul Keens Douglas, a former producer of Talk Tents Comedy Festival in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies.  Pitching the concept and opportunity to CCI to provide Caribbean Culture to the Washington Metropolitan area.  Douglas began orchestrating this oral tradition as a testament to Von's cultural roots beyond the island borders of the Caribbean.

Since the festival's inception, it has been funded through person in-house donations from CCI staff and community support through sales of its program magazine and ticket sales.  Because WPFW FM is only volunteer-based, the Caribbean Comedy Festival is the only source of CCI's independent fundraising.

Have a fantastic weekend!
