Dearest Online Family and Friends:

Respect and Greetings to each and every one of you.  I hope everything is wonderful in your life, and in your world!

Life goes one as we struggle to make sense of things…right???  Life certainly goes on; although, some stunning words were used during the course of this week as the debates and standoff regarding raising the US dept ceiling “fiasco” continued!  I am so ashamed of how this African-American President are seen in the eyes of our elected Government Official, and is disrespected in every which way possible.  [IT IS SO DANGEROUS FOR EYES AROUND THE WORLD!] I am certain too, it’s a reflection of how they perceive African-American people on a whole.

Okay…Okay, as the debate heated up among some in my circle, I was told I must stop being so sensitive!  Huh…stop being sensitive?  Come on folks a member of the opposing party -- Republican Doug Lamborn stated publicly:

Even if some people say, ‘Well, the Republicans should have done this or should have done that,’ they will hold the president responsible,”   “Now, I don’t even want to be associated with him. It's like touching a, a tar baby and you get it ...you know you’re stuck, and you’re part of the problem now, and you can’t get away.”

WHAT?  It’s like touching a tar baby?  HUHHH...WHAT ON EARTH AM I HEARING IN THIS MODERN, SO CALLED POST RACIAL TIME?  Gee, don’t you think another diplomatic word could have been used?  But nah, obviously it couldn’t; these folks have no respect whatsoever and clearly loathe President Obama.

Tar Baby, is a doll made of tar and turpentine used to entrap Br'er Rabbit in the second of the Uncle Remus stories. While it is was originally used to mean a sticky situation, it has also come to be widely considered a racist term to describe African Americans.

OH YEAH…of course many are “up in arms” and YES, the Republican Congressman from Colorado did go under fire for using those words; and he eventually apologized. His Office statement reads: “Lamborn was attempting to tell a radio audience last week that the president’s policies have created an economic quagmire for the nation and are responsible for the dismal economic conditions our country faces. “He regrets that he chose the phrase tar baby, rather than the word ‘quagmire.’”

Wow he should have used “quagmire”?  But instead tar baby was the first thing he thought about using…hummm!!!!

The apology is ridicules!  Even the statement Doug Lamborn made to the Denver Post I find insulting and disrespectful.  Lamborn said: I absolutely intended no offense, and if this is at all on his radar screen, I am sure that he will not take offense and he'll be happy to accept my apology because he is a man of character”

Nevertheless, in my opinion the word has been used and the damage is already done; this apology does not solve the deep rooted problem embedded within the souls of many of our elected Government officials in Congress and beyond.  Wow, so very disturbing and racially charged!

And can someone tell me...what kind of a message did President Obama send by accepting and signing the “debt and deficit package?” The message to the many hateful ones is that it is OK to continue being disrespectful,  contemptuous, and say exactly what they want publicly about; and to the President.  I feel the President should have set a precedence, and stuck to what he was fighting for.  He should have never “CAVED” as many described his signing of the debt and deficit package/bill.

As a man of Character, and as diplomatic as President Obama is ~~~ after signing the bill he took the opportunity to renew his call for what he euphemistically calls "revenue adjustments," including higher taxes for "millionaires and billionaires."  He further stated the following:

..."Since you can’t close the deficit with just spending cuts, we’ll need a balanced approach where everything is on the table," he said. "Yes, that means making some adjustments to protect health-care programs like Medicare so they’re there for future generations.

"It also means reforming our tax code so that the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations pay their fair share. And it means getting rid of taxpayer subsidies to oil and gas companies, and tax loopholes that help billionaires pay a lower tax rate than teachers and nurses."

Honestly, my husband Todd and even some of our trusted associates have asked me why am I surprised?  Umm hum…they are right to ask, because I absolutely do know the truth.  I know what MUST, and HAS to be done, and know exactly who are in charge.  However, at times when what has been planned takes place, I become angry.  [I often find it very interesting how America accepts all this madness without getting as angry as I do.]  Anyway, I’m sure all of this is just a diversion for something bigger taking place (way above our heads…PERHAPS).

I urge you to read, listen, and share with me your thoughts on this issue.

Let me move along on a more fun and happier note.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to President Barack Obama, who turns 50 today!

This Saturday, August 6th, Jamaica celebrates its  49th Anniversary of Independence.

Super Awesome Events Taking Place This Weekend

Now for the fun things taking place over the course of the weekend; in fact beginning tonight!

kassav.png (416563 bytes)Yup, Tonight…Tonight…Tonight, August 4th; the Legendary, World Renowned & Undisputed # 1 Zouk band “KASSAV” is in town for a debut performance in Maryland.

Personally, we have heard friends and even family members rave about this band for years.  From all accounts they are totally awesome, and one of the most innovative groups that has played an important role in the creation and development of the musical art form called Zouk

ZOUK: Elements from Haitian kompa, Dominica cadence-lypso, Dominican merengue, Nuevo Rican salsa, Trinidadian calypso, and Republic of Cameroon's music, Makossa, and recorded in the newly-developed purely digital format available in Paris.  Parties in the Antilles are called "zouks," In The Mid 80's nearly every Antilles musician had jumped on the Zoukwagon and a whole new style of music was born!

kassav-8.4.11-Back-L.PNG (944491 bytes)If you are a lover of "Zouk" or if you haven’t been to a “Zouk” before; [like us] it is your chance to experience the full spectrum of Zouk.  Therefore, I urge you to check out “Kassav” tonight at the Crossroads Entertainment Complex, 4103 Baltimore Avenue, Downtown, Bladensburg, Maryland.

Virgina+Caribfes-2011.JPG (182700 bytes)This Saturday will be fantastic as Norfolk, Virginia Presents it’s Annual CaribFest (Caribbean Carnival).  They are celebrating their 6th year, and events Kick off on Friday.

We have attended a few times, and we have observed how nicely it’s growing.  SoN+Boatride-2011.JPG (81564 bytes)We also continue to strongly (year after year) support the efforts of the Committee by spreading the word to all of you our on-line family and friends.  We must also congratulate the Committee for working extremely hard throughout the years making sure that their CaribFest grow, and most importantly that each and everyone who attends have a Super Time.  This year the Headlining act is the Legendary Reggae Group “Third World”.  For more specific details, I have added some of their Press Release Below.

The 6th Annual International Caribbean Festival "CaribFest" and Carnival Parade, a City of Norfolk sponsored event, will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011. The event organizer is the Virginia Caribbean-American Cultural Association Inc. (VCACA, Inc.), a nonprofit/tax exempt organization under section 501(3)(c) of the Internal Revenue Service, their aim is to broaden the public's appreciation of cultural diversity.
This year’s theme:

"Celebrate the Spectacle…a Caribbean Explosion!"
CaribFest is no ordinary festival! It is a vibrant celebration of Caribbean culture. One of its main highlights is the colorful Brazilian type PARADE including dancers on stilts, elaborate costumes and folklore characters. Additionally, many other activities are planned throughout the day at the main festival area Town Point Park: live authentic Caribbean performances, such as, International Reggae recording artists like the legendary 10-time Grammy Award nominated Third World, Calypso and Soca artists, Steelpan music, Limbo dancers, a Children’s Zone, food and Arts & Crafts vendors. This is a spectacular celebration of rich Caribbean heritage and culture in what has become one of the city’s most diverse joyous annual community festivals.
Visitors will get an opportunity to celebrate, learn, and savor Caribbean hospitality, culture, heritage as only the Caribbean can offer!

As the weekend comes to a close, THE EVENT MANY OF US HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR ALL YEAR ROUND TAKES PLACE!  Beres-8.7.2011-L.png (441626 bytes)Indeed it’s Beres Hammond at the “Love Within The Music Festival,” taking place this Sunday, August 7, 2011.  This is sure to be a great day for the entire family.  Yeah...Yeah...Yeah, guaranteed positive vibes from start to finish.

The Vibes Master DJ G-Nice will set up the Vibes until show time, where he’ll turn things over to DJ Inferno; who will certainly set the stage for Sharon Tucker, Wayne Wonder and Mr. Beres Hammond.

One thing I find at all Beres's shows is: YOU NEVER KNOW WHO ELSE WILL SHOW UP.  Therefore, you must be there for this fantastic festival; and to experience Reggae music at its best; plus celebrate Jamaica’s 49th Independence [the birthplace of Reggae music.]

Beres-8.2011-Back-L.JPG (125052 bytes)Gates open at 3:00 pm, so come early to Crossroads Entertainment Complex, 4103 Baltimore Avenue, Downtown Bladensburg, Maryland 20710, and make it a great day filled with music food and lots of fun.

Be inspired and Motivated to increase your Spiritual Energy.

"It Takes All Kinds"

It takes all kinds

To make a world.

Yes! Even someone like me.

I care not to be

About the world I see.

I would be bored

To play it safe,

And hide the way I feel.

I know at times

I can be harsh.

I play the cards men deal.

I take my chance

In utter faith,

My universe? Friendly.

I have no fear

Of circumstance,

I struggle on valiantly.

I love my God,

My friends, my foe,

Laugh and Bear patiently.

And if at times

I lose my cool,

I forgive, and quickly.

I deeply feel

The pulse of life,

And, Spirit is my beacon.

I know true joy

Beyond the norm,

Love is my only reason.

I live my life

From inside out.

I follow my own drummer.

My tune may not

Be like your own,

I understand my meter.

I travel paths,

But not alone;

I’m not afraid to wander

Far from the roads

Where others walk,

I fear no man, nor danger.

Let me be used,

I’ll dare to laugh,

When others may be crying.

Do not be fooled

By how I look.

There’s more to what you’re seeing.
