Dearest Online Family and friends, all of you are SOOOOO awesome! Many THANKS for all your great feedback!  Having the special opportunity to share my thoughts through our weekly E-newsletter “The Arious Grapevine” is wonderful, exciting and fun; plus hard work as well.  However, my work becomes so much more tangible when I get feedback from you [our online family and friends!]  Please know that the knowledge I gain is phenomenal…it helps me to improve, grow; and it helps me to keep going!  More importantly, the thoughts, experiences, and ideas many of you freely share are fascinating and absolutely welcomed…[ALWAYS!!!]  THANKS!!!!

I am so very pleased that many of you took the time to read, absorbed [what I wrote last week,] and shared your thoughts with me specifically regarding my question: “What kind of a message did President Obama send by accepting and signing the “debt and deficit package/bill” [Congress had presented to him; instead of setting a precedence and sticking to what he was fighting for.] Many of you indicated his hands were tied; and he “had to do…what he had to do.” Understandable … everyone; you will get NO argument from me regarding your observations, reasoning and explanations of the situation!  However, now that it is signed; what he was trying to avoid is currently happening: 1) The most powerful country – The United States of America’s AAA credit rating has been reported to have dropped.  2) The stock Market has been overly unstable (some days falling substantially, causing the stocks many of us purchased to lose much or all of its value; and on other days it is back up to considerable highs~~~leaving many of us in a panic, plus us loosing trust in the market overall.) 3) Our retirement savings have begun to be affected (slightly)!

So do you believe it is safe for me to use the popular statement: he was “damned if he did; and damned if he didn’t?”  In fact, I am hearing some talk about it all being President Obama’s fault.  Subsequently…in this situation truly that statement is on point [“damned if you do and damned if you don’t”.]

I must close out on a positive note though.  Late yesterday afternoon my husband Todd called and told me something amazing has happened; which surrounds what I mentioned above.  You see: 1) The Federal Reserve has pledged to leave interest rates near zero until mid 2013…[meaning they will not raise interest rates for 2 years.]  Yes, headlines are reading “The Federal Reserve Saves The Stock Market.

Additionally, (2) Interest rates on mortgages have dropped substantially [lower than ever before.]  Therefore, now is the perfect time to buy your home…your dream home!

Clearly, despite the negativity and unstable market; some positives have transpired.

Again, share with me your thoughts on the above issue.  I am always delighted when I receive them; so please keep them coming in, as it helps me to learn and improve my way of thinking and seeing things.

Magnificent Concerts

Exactly one week ago it appears life was pumped into the Caribbean music industry in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia areas (in my humble opinion).  As I discussed this further with my husband "Todd" and some of our colleagues everyone seemed to agree wholeheartedly.  My husband eloquently pointed out that for the past 5 or 6 years the Caribbean Music Industry has been completely dead; he further stated that this week he witnessed a slight spark of hope that Caribbean Music can return in its full splendor to this area with a positive and peaceful vibe.  Therefore, this is the perfect time to recognize the folks at the Crossroads Entertainment Complex in Bladensburg, Maryland for helping to rejuvenate the industry a bit in this area by presenting two (2) “top notch” concerts featuring: (1) a super band; and (2) some super talented reggae artist.  Needless-to-say they were magnificent!!!

It all kicked off last Thursday 8/4/11 with the Legendary, World Renowned & Undisputed # 1 Zouk band KASSAV, who gave a stellar performance; and left everyone fully contented.  This was our first time seeing “Kassav” and they were truly remarkable, and extremely full of energy.  In fact, they were more than what everyone told us they would be.  Being that my husband's dad was from Martinique, you would think Todd would have been able to translate what they were saying to me; but LOL he was no help (even though his father always spoke French around him and to him; unfortunately he never picked up on the language.)

From my observations, I saw the attendees having a tremendous amount of fun; which made me smile.  And the feedbacks I received from the winners of our ticket giveaway were very positive~~~It was absolutely clear everyone had a really great time.  I am still receiving e-mails and calls from our winners who keep saying “Merci…Merci…Merci beaucoup.”

As I gathered my thoughts about the next big show that took place a few days later on 8/7/11 “The Love Within The Music Festival” Featuring Beres Hammond and Wayne Wonder; the few words I found to describe it was SPLENDID ~~~ SUPERB ~~~ MARVELOUS!

Things kicked off nicely with the Vibes Master “G-Nice” who laid the foundation for the great vibes that continued throughout the night.  When G-Nice began his set, he courteously stated he WILL NOT be playing "the regular jump up….jump up dancehall music that is normally played at these type of events."  Instead he proceeded to set some real nice vibes by playing conscious positive reggae music.  Wow, I must say it’s always a treat to hear the Vibes Master G-Nice play!

Next up was DJ Inferno who continued with some great vibes, and set the stage nicely for the features artists.  Wayne_Wonder-Photo-2xS.JPG (17085 bytes)Finally, it was show time and MC Tony Carr with his signature statement “ARE YOU READYYYYYY” introduced the talented Wayne Wonder, who took the stage dressed in all white.

Wayne Wonder, the great performer that he is; performed hit after hit after hit (it was amazing how many hits he has had over the years.)  The fascinating thing about his performance was how well he sang his good friend Buju Banton’s parts from all the duets they had done throughout the years.  It was truly awesome hearing him perform both parts!  Indeed he is a great singer, and OVERALL a great performer!

After a brief intermission, which gave the huge crowd time to mingle, greet old friends and meet new friends; plus sample some of the tasty foods provided by the Crossroads Restaurant and Taste of the Caribbean Restaurant.  Everyone were also able to check out the Arts and Crafts Vendors who had some great reggae music on sale, along with fantastic souvenirs and merchandise (t-shirts, hats, dresses, etc.)

Finally, it was time for the moment we all were waiting for; and the crowd showed their esteem, adoration and love by their thunderous applause after the Master Performer Beres Hammond was introduced by MC Tony Carr.  I simply don’t know what more I can say about “Beres Hammond” that I have not said before in past E-Newsletters.  Indeed he is a talent to behold and I absolutely adore the smooth, sweet, sensual voice of this lovers' rock style, conscious and mesmerizing Jamaican singerMr. Hammond's captivating voice thrilled me again; as he does year after year after year! See my words below that will help you understand what an incredible performer and show this was.

Hum, it is quite difficult to explain the intense emotions I feel every time I hear this man sing.  He touches my mind, body and soul…ALWAYS!  Beres along with his band the "Harmony House Musicians" and back up singers "The Harmony House Singers" ignited the stage and performed incredibly.  Beres performed a wide selection of his hit songs and many of my favorites effortlessly, and with sophistication: "Step Aside "; "Can't Stop A Man (from trying); " "Tempted To Touch; " "Falling In Love All Over Again; " "I feel  A Shiver; " "I Wish You Would Stay Longer; " "Come Back Home; " "Putting Up A Resistance; " "Pull Up The Vibes; " "Double Trouble; " "They Gonna Talk; " "What One Dance Can Do; " "No Disturb Sign;" and just about every one of his hits.  It was truly a glorious performance and one that had me "week in the knees"---LOL.  It seemed Beres did not want to leave his "family " as he called us, and thanked us for supporting him throughout the years.  His performance continued for well over an hour; and I feel it was one of his greatest performances .  I must commend the band (Harmony House Musicians) for doing a great job making every song sound like the original recording.  In fact, my favorite musician in the Harmony House band is the guitarist; who is truly a great performer and a STAR!  I love to see him perform with his guitar at every Beres Hammond Show.

Even though I was in a different frame of mind for this particular show being that my role was geared more to the organizational aspect of things. I still enjoyed this show immensely, and had tons of fun.  Umm…Umm…Umm, I said it above and I MUST say it again: THIS SHOW/FESTIVAL WAS TRULY MAGNIFICENT!

I urge you to check out " Beres Hammond " when he comes to your town.  I know he was at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York last night with Wayne Wonder and Sanchez.  However, I'm not quite sure what towns he is scheduled to perform in during the weeks/months ahead; but look him up, get the details on his tour and check him out.  If you know and love his music you are in for a treat, and if you are not familiar with this fantastic singer perhaps you will fall in love with his lovely voice and great performance as many of us have.

I noticed Todd stated on his Facebook page: “When it’s nice…you’ve got to do it twice”!  Well, that's precisely what we did this past Tuesday night.  We attended another Beres Hammond concert "The Love Within The Music Festival" in Baltimore, Maryland @ Rams Head Live.  This venue [Rams Head Live] is awesome, it just has a cozy feel to it.  However, I feel totally "ripped off" because their drink prices were exorbitant (A Bud Lite Lime beer cost $7.00...totally outrageous). Never-the-less, the show itself had a more up and close personal feel to it; which was incredible for me; and I felt the performances were quite lengthy (certainly a major plus for me).  Wayne Wonder performed very nicely and sang quite a bit of his hit songs; many I obviously had forgotten.  And Ohhhh Beres Hammond, was again simply marvelous!  He just sang and sang and sang. I actually think he did all his hits. Towards the end of the show Beres was presented with an award from Baltimore's Jamaican Nationals Association, which he accept graciously.  He ended by expressing his sincere thanks, and expressed his love for the audience...his supporters...his FAMILY as he called all of us!

A great end to a week filled with lovely, positive reggae music performed by reggae's greatest performers.  I am hopeful it continues!!!

In closing I want to send our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. James Anderson; who was the victim of a hate crime in late June of this year in Mississippi.  In this MODERN SO CALLED POST RACIAL TIME; Mr. Anderson was attacked, and beaten brutally by carloads of white teenagers.  Finally, he was ran over by one of the teen’s pickup truck.  Weird that this brutal incident is just hitting the media!!!!  Anyway, condolences to his family and friends.

I have added CNN's Video below of the incident!

On a recent Sunday morning just before dawn, two carloads of white teenagers drove to Jackson, Mississippi, on what the county district attorney says was a mission of hate: to find and hurt a black person.

Finally, I pray that everything gets back to normal in London, England after all the rioting, fighting, looting and killings have taken place due to a fatal shooting of a civilian by Police officers a week ago.  The situation turned extremely serious with vandalism, arsons, violent disorder and looting began to occur.  Many officers have been injured, as well as people.  Over a 1,100 people have been arrested, and several 100s have been charged.

"FlashPoint" - Presented by Hollis Lashley

Hello Arious Family: This week I quote Gibran, one of my favorite poets. Enjoy, as I dedicate this piece to all friends whom I have and have not yet met!

"One reason and Passion"

by Kahlil Gibran

Your soul is oftentimes a battlefield, upon which your reason and your judgment wage war against your passion and your appetite.
Would that I could be the peacemaker in your soul, that I might turn the discord and the rivalry of your elements into oneness and melody.
But how shall I, unless you yourselves be also the peacemakers, nay, the lovers of all your elements?

Your reason and your passion are the rudder and the sails of your seafaring soul. If either your sails or your rudder be broken, you can but toss and drift, or else be held at a standstill in mid-seas.
For reason, ruling alone, is a force confining; and passion, unattended, is a flame that burns to its own destruction.
Therefore let your soul exalt your reason to the height of passion, that it may sing;
And let it direct your passion with reason, that your passion may live through its own daily resurrection, and like the phoenix rise above its own ashes.

I would have you consider your judgment and your appetite even as you would two loved guests in your house.
Surely you would not honour one guest above the other; for he who is more mindful of one loses the love and the faith of both.

Among the hills, when you sit in the cool shade of the white poplars, sharing the peace and serenity of distant fields and meadows -- then let your heart say in silence, "God rests in reason."
And when the storm comes, and the mighty wind shakes the forest, and thunder and lightning proclaim the majesty of the sky -- then let your heart say in awe, "God moves in passion."
And since you are a breath in God's sphere, and a leaf in God's forest, you too should rest in reason and move in passion.
