Hello On-Line Family and Friends. Gee, I do hope your 4th of July Holiday was fantastic.
Taking it easy at home [chilling and sipping] was what my husband Todd and I did, so it was pretty quiet of us. Which allowed us to get a few things done around the house, plus (LOL) we even got some cooking done. What we did do different [at the end of the day,] was drive into Washington DC to see the National Capital 4th of July Fireworks Display. And needless-to-say, it was amazing!!!
It’s so funny that we lived in the city for a number of years, and had the opportunity to simply look out of our window; or even sit on our porch to see the display; but never did. Hum, now that we reside quite a few miles away, we were able to check it out. And splendid it was!
I do hope yours was too.
Click on the pictures below to view what we captured via camera.
What an odd month it has been … every one of these past 30 days! Not only due to the erratic and ruthless weather, as well as the crazy things taking place around the nation; but things in my world have been a bit out of the ordinary. [Hum, I recall the last time I felt this way was when I lost someone very dear to me unexpectedly 17 months or so ago.] Although I have been “trotting” along positively, as well as fighting to feel “up to par” again; seeing life through those bright rose-colored glasses is unusually different! However, as disheartening as it seems; the “fighter” in me WILL battle it all and WILL win. Surly, things will smoothen out and WILL get back to normal real soon! LOL … heck ~ ~ ~ In fact it always does!!
I mentioned above the weather has been erratic; and GOSH has it been crazy! Severe thunderstorms - which produces high winds, lots of hail, heavy rains and massive flooding! Tornadoes too have been spawn; along with Microburst, and even devastating Hurricane (down south.) Most importantly, this extreme July Heat Wave we have been enduring [across the nation]; for some time now is unbelievable. Thousands upon thousands are experiencing these high temperatures without power; in fact today marks 7 days for many who have been living and suffering from NOT HAVING POWER in my area (Wash. DC, MD, and VA.)
Yeah ... Yeah ... I know it’s summertime, but it’s too early in the summer to experience weather like this; with temperatures ranging in the upper 90s, and reaching as high as in the triple digits (100s). The humidity levels are incredible, and everything is an issue when you are outdoors; even breathing properly is problematic. Oh dear, it is absolutely unbearable in these here parts, and in many states across the region.
we CAN, and MUST do: is STAY HYDRATED and TAKE PRECAUTIONS!
Additionally, keep those who are suffering in our Prayers …
Pray that they are given strength to endure this harsh weather; and
pray that the power companies restore their power very soon!
Also, if you can lend a hand or open your door to those who are
in need; please ~ ~ ~ please ~ ~ ~ please do!
Below, I have listed some details and even tips to increase awareness; as well as how to manage in this hot weather.
As you know, exposure to heat can cause illness and death. The most serious heat illness is heat stroke. Other heat illnesses, such as heat exhaustion, heat cramps and heat rash, should be avoided.
Everyone should exercise extreme caution when doing any outdoor activity or working outside to prevent heat-related illness. High temperatures can quickly lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke if the proper measures are not taken.
Everyone should be familiar with the symptoms of heat related stress, and must make sure that they are hydrated (drinking water frequently.)
There are precautions that should be taken anytime temperatures are high especially when it involves physical work.
Risk Factors for Heat Illness
- High temperature and humidity, direct sun exposure, no breeze or wind.
- Low liquid intake.
- Heavy physical labor.
- Waterproof clothing.
- No recent exposure to hot workplaces.
Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion
- HEADACHE, DIZZINESS, OR FAINTING.
- Weakness and wet skin.
- Irritability or confusion.
- Thirst, nausea, or vomiting.
Symptoms of Heat Stroke
- May be confused, unable to think clearly, pass out, collapse, or have seizures.
- May stop sweating.
How You Can Protect Yourself and Others
- Know sign/symptoms of heat illness; monitor yourself; use a buddy system.
- Block out direct sun and other heat sources.
- Drink plenty of fluids. Drink often and BEFORE you are thirsty. Drink water every 15 minutes.
- Avoid beverages containing alcohol or caffeine.
- Wear lightweight, light colored, loose-fitting clothing.
What to DO if/when someone is ill from the Heat
- Call 911 (first and foremost).
- Have someone stay with the individual until help arrives.
- Move the individual to a cooler/shaded area.
- Remove outer clothing.
- Fan and mist the individual with water; apply ice (ice bags or ice towels).
- Provide cool drinking water, if able to drink
IF THE INDIVIDUAL IS NOT ALERT or seems confused, this may be a heat stroke. CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY and apply ice as soon as possible.
