Dearest Online Family and Friends:

I do hope everything is wonderful in your life, and in your world!

The madness continues here in the United States!  Yet another huge fight is currently taking place between the Republican and Democrat “nut jobs.  Pardon my bluntness when I say AGAIN, the fighting continues between the “idiots” we voted in office to represent us…THE PEOPLE.  I’m I crazy, but don’t these idiots realize we elected them/place them in office so that they can fight for our rights, our wants, and our needs?????

Gees…why don’t these Politicians realize it’s not about them, that they were not placed in office to fight for their own personal agenda; moreover, they were not placed in office to fight their personal war with the sitting President.  It’s about us (THE PEOPLE).  WE placed them there with our votes; WE pay their salary with our tax dollars, and WE expect them to represent us and fight for us…the citizens of these United States.  My goodness, their egos are absolutely “off the chain!”

It should be quite obvious by now, that I am talking about the fighting that is currently taking place with our elected officials; and President Barack Obama regarding raising the debt ceiling (14.3 Trillion) before the United States default on its debt obligations.  And ultimately result in a major financial catastrophe, along with significant global repercussions.  (Deadline: August 2, 2011.)

Oh dear, the rhetoric I am hearing from the Republican Party is making my head spin.  Why is it that they refuse to acknowledge, and accept the fact that President Obama inherited this debt; as well as all the problems we have been enduring in this country?  He absolutely didn’t create it…he walked into office with everything in disarray!

Frankly, it is beginning to get maddening for many around the nation because clearly since President Obama has been in office nothing in this Government can get done without a fight ~~~ where he is challenged; fought; treated like crap; and furthermore, disrespected publicly to the highest degree.  In fact, never in the history of this country have I seen any other President endure the kinds of madness this President is tolerating.

Further, I am so ashamed of the racist faces I see among our Congressmen and Women who make up our Government; and it disturbs me greatly that one of them challenged our President publicly for the world to see some days ago over the raising of this debt ceiling.  Truly appalling and so very dangerous!

Well…some days ago I was relieved to learn that the phones in Congress are ringing off the hook regarding complaints from many in America who wish for the fight to end regarding raising the debt ceiling.  I’m glad they heard clearly what the President said on Monday night (July 25, 2011,) when he spoke to America via his Prime-Time televised "Address to the Nation" regarding this very important issue; and the fight he is getting from the Republican Party.  Some of his words still ring in my head!

“The American people may have voted for divided government, but they didn’t vote for a dysfunctional government.  So I’m asking you all to make your voice heard.  If you want a balanced approach to reducing the deficit, let your member of Congress know.”

From my understanding President Obama is absolutely in agreement and wishes to “cut, cap and balance” (Words stated by the Speaker of the House John Boehner as he made his disturbing speech following the President’s.)  However, the fight is really about how this is approached and accomplished.  Which is just a stupid fight in my opinion.

  1. Cut - Substantial cuts in spending that will reduce the deficit next year and thereafter.
  2. Cap - Enforceable spending caps that will put federal spending on a path to a balanced budget.
  3. Balance - Congressional passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution -- but only if it includes both a spending limitation and a super-majority for raising taxes, in addition to balancing revenues and expenses.

What’s the big deal folks? As President Obama Stated: "...In the past, raising the debt ceiling was routine. Since the 1950s, Congress has always passed it, and every President has signed it. President Reagan did it 18 times. George W. Bush did it 7 times..."  Therefore, why is it a fight, and such a grueling public fight for President Obama to raise it [with his terms~~~that he feels is right for the American people...the people that voted him in office?]

Somebody...Anybody feel free to correct me here…[school] me on this issue…please!

Below I have added some of President Obama’s speech so you can get a clear understanding of the fight that is currently taking place within our Government regarding this important issues (raising the debt ceiling).  Please do read!!!   Note:  By clicking below where it says "CLICK HERE TO SEE VIDEO AND ENTIRE WRITTEN VERSION OF THE ADDRESS" you will find I have added the video, as well as the entire written version of President Obama's Address.  Additionally, in an effort for you to understand both sides; I have included Speaker of the House John Boehner's opposing response to the Presidents Address To the Nation.

President Barack Obama Said:

...The debate has centered around two different approaches.

The first approach says, let’s live within our means by making serious, historic cuts in government spending.  Let’s cut domestic spending to the lowest level it’s been since Dwight Eisenhower was President.  Let’s cut defense spending at the Pentagon by hundreds of billions of dollars.  Let’s cut out waste and fraud in health care programs like Medicare -- and at the same time, let’s make modest adjustments so that Medicare is still there for future generations.  Finally, let’s ask the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations to give up some of their breaks in the tax code and special deductions.

This balanced approach asks everyone to give a little without requiring anyone to sacrifice too much.  It would reduce the deficit by around $4 trillion and put us on a path to pay down our debt.  And the cuts wouldn’t happen so abruptly that they’d be a drag on our economy, or prevent us from helping small businesses and middle-class families get back on their feet right now.

This approach is also bipartisan.  While many in my own party aren’t happy with the painful cuts it makes, enough will be willing to accept them if the burden is fairly shared.  While Republicans might like to see deeper cuts and no revenue at all, there are many in the Senate who have said, “Yes, I’m willing to put politics aside and consider this approach because I care about solving the problem.”  And to his credit, this is the kind of approach the Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, was working on with me over the last several weeks.

The only reason this balanced approach isn’t on its way to becoming law right now is because a significant number of Republicans in Congress are insisting on a different approach -- a cuts-only approach -– an approach that doesn’t ask the wealthiest Americans or biggest corporations to contribute anything at all.  And because nothing is asked of those at the top of the income scale, such an approach would close the deficit only with more severe cuts to programs we all care about –- cuts that place a greater burden on working families.

So the debate right now isn’t about whether we need to make tough choices.  Democrats and Republicans agree on the amount of deficit reduction we need.  The debate is about how it should be done..."

I urge you to read, listen, and share with me your thoughts.  Additionally, I really want you to pick up the phone and call your Congressman and share your feelings on this issue as well.

Super Awesome Events

Summer is truly heating up, and so is our area.  Nuff events to attend; and the vibes are slowly, but surly beginning to get right.  First, let me start by briefly saying a few words about the Trinidad and Tobago Working Women’s Committee Fundraiser for DC Caribbean Carnival, Inc. that took place last Saturday (July 23, 2011.)

Well, of course we attended; and I must say it was truly an elegant affair!  I was happy to see so many from our community supporting the Carnival.  The food was fantastic, and the drinks WoW were delicious.  It was wonderful to see our Trinidad and Tobago Ambassador To The United States - Dr. Neil Parsan in attendance.  And I was even more ecstatic to see some wonderful people who have been in my life over the years; and who are absolutely FAMILY to me.  I must say to Aunt Zilla it was great seeing you…my dear!  Gill, and even cousin Aneeka, did quite a lot that evening to make sure everything was right/perfect at this event.  Finally, to Aunt Deanne and the rest of the Working Women’s Committee…you all did a magnificent job [as always].  Below is a message I received from Chairperson Deanne Samuels regarding the event.

Friends & Supporters:

On behalf of the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Working Women's Committee, Annette Achille, Patricia St. Hill and Patricia Phillip; we say thank you for your overwhelming support last Saturday evening.

You helped us to accomplish our goal and in the interim, you seemed to have had a good time.

Again, THANKS!! and we hope to see you soon.

Flashback-I_&_II-L.JPG (131173 bytes)This weekend is the début of the special event “FLASHBACK”; specifically taking place on Saturday, July 30, 2011 @ The Brentwood Restaurant in Brentwood Maryland.  "FLASHBACK" is the brainchild of our “FlashPoint” creator/contributor Hollis Lashley and his partner Kenny Turner.  Mr. Lashley described this event beautifully last week, and below are some of his words.  CLICK HERE TO READ ALL.

Join Mr. Lashley and his partner for a night of memories as they go back in time exploring music and culture.  This is one you don’t want to miss!

"Flashback" is not a fete to make money, although that would be welcome.

It is a celebration of an era of Pride, Innocence, Cultural relevance, Creativity, Togetherness, and the willingness to continue to forge  relationships built on our firm foundation of a knowledge of the past which we need to teach our young, and to remind ourselves that we have come from times of drinking from the wine of astonishment, and eating from the fruits of our powerful Caribbean spirit.

"Flashback" is to come together to reminisce, to dance as we used to, to hear the old music which we have thrown in a corner, to revisit forgotten times and occasions, to give a little fatigue and picong, to eat cooked food instead of fast food, while we leave our self importance in a large trash bag outside, until we are ready to leave.

"Flashback" is therapy without the $90.00 an hour fee.

The excitement continues as we explore different cultures with the sounds from the “French Caribbean”.  Hum, I’m sure you are aware that the music of the Caribbean is diverse and there is a lot more to just reggae and soca/calypso.  Zouk is another music form created in the Caribbean, and I am happy to let you know that it will be showcased in our area.

kassav.png (416563 bytes)kassav-8.4.11-Back-L.PNG (944491 bytes)Yeah...Yeah, on Thursday, August 4th, 2011; the Legendary, World Renowned & Undisputed # 1 Zouk band “KASSAV” Will be performing for the very first time at the Crossroads Entertainment Complex, 4103 Baltimore Avenue, Bladensburg, Maryland.

This is a perfect opportunity to experience another form of music~~~out of the Caribbean.  If you want to check it out let us know so you can be our guest. Tickets are limited, so contact us immediately (first come first serve.) tickets@ariousentertainment.us

Our  “FlashPoint” writer/contributor – Author Hollis Lashley has shared an interesting piece with us this week for his weekly “FlashPoint."  See his words below and check out his this week's "“FlashPoint."  Also, don't forget to attend Mr. Lashley and his partner's event "Flashback" this Saturday, July 30, 2011.

Hello All & the Arious Family: I just thought that this was an interesting piece which should be shared with you our readers. The intention is not to be judgmental, but to give our political and non political nationals an opportunity to think for themselves. This is an opinion expressed on a blog, and it is only featured on Flashpoint

"Politics III"

Subject: Betrayal of the African Vote
The recent reshuffle or realignment of portfolios by the Honourable Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar is a clear betrayal of the African vote from the national community.
The actions of the Honourable Prime Minister do not reflect a master stroke from one who professes to be the Mother of the Nation but rather  reflects the biases of both gender and race within the People’s Partnership coalition.
In spite of the well-crafted responses offered for this realignment of  portfolios, one cannot ignore the fact that all the critical ministries are now headed by Members of Parliament of East Indian decent.
These facts as we know them speak for themselves:
- Minister of Health Dr. Fuad Khan
- Minister of Science Technology and Tertiary Education Mr. Fazal Karim
- Minister of the People and Social Development Dr. Glen Ramadharsingh
- Minister of Public Administration Ms. Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan
- Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Mr. Kevin Ramnarine
- Minister of Education Dr. Timothy Gopeesingh
- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Information Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan
- Minister of Transport Mr. Devant Maharaj
- Minister of Local Government Mr. Chandresh Sharma
- Minister of Finance Mr. Winston Dookeran
- Minister of Housing and the Environment Dr. Roodal Mooilal
- Minister of Legal Affairs Mr. Prakash Ramadhar
- Minister of Food Production, Land and Marine  Affairs Mr.  Vasant Bharath
- Minister of Community Development Mr. Nizam Baksh
- Minister of Planning, Social and Economic Restructuring Dr. Beau Tewarie
- Minister of the Attorney General Mr. Anand Ramlogan
These are the facts.  Regardless of what the Honourable Prime Minister wishes for us to think, the realignment of her Cabinet represents the marginalization of the African community and a misrepresentation of what was articulated on the People’s Partnership platform, which promised equality and justice in governing the affairs of this country.
It is strange that African Members of Parliament headed the two ministries from which major portfolios were excised and these two portfolios were placed under the control of East Indian Members of Parliament.  The facts do not lie:
i.      The portfolio of URP was removed from the Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprises headed by Mr.  Errol McLeod and was placed under an East Indian Member of Parliament, Mr. Chandresh Sharma, Minister of Local Government; and
ii.    The portfolio of Transport was removed from the Ministry of Works and Transport headed by Mr. Jack Warner and was placed under an East Indian Senator, Mr. Devant Maharaj in the Ministry of Transport set up to facilitate his rise to the position of Minister.
What is even more bemusing is that the two major work intensive labour portfolios, CEPEP and URP are now under East Indian Members of Parliament whose focus all lie south of the Caroni Bridge.
Of all the changes the latter is the most confusing since prior to the realignment the Honourable Prime Minister indicated that change would have been based on performance.  It is confusing for anyone to understand how the best performing Minister could have his Ministry split in two while Ministers whose performance received very  little ratings in the multiple polls published in various media could have portfolios added to their Ministry.  I am speaking specifically here to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Local Government.
If this therefore is not an act of betrayal against the African vote, well clearly I do not know what is.   What I do know though is that come 2015, the Prime Minister must perform miracles to convince the African community that her politics is not built on a race relations platform which alienates the African people.
