Hello On-Line family and friends.  How have all of you been doing? I do hope all is well with you and yours.  And everything is absolutely perfect in your world.

For me it’s been extremely hectic (hence me missing a week of “vibing” with you.)  I still have not fully recovered yet; but life had to return to normalcy regardless of how I have been feeling, and is currently feeling.  I must at this point THANK YOU so very much for your concerns and well wishes.

I stated at the beginning of June: that this month (which is about to end) is ONE of the most fun and exciting months in the year; and for 2012 it was all I expected it to be.  Black Music Month this year will forever stay in my mind [being that music is such a big part of both my husband Todd Mangatal and my life.]  Additionally, the many lectures, discussions, events, concerts, forums, etc…etc…etc; all culminating around, and celebrating Caribbean-American Heritage were absolutely interesting.

In fact, Wednesday’s (6/27/12) Conference Call with the First Lady Michelle Obama was meaningful.  For me it brought this month to closure in a positive and successful way, and it truly exhibited that Caribbean-Americans are respected and appreciated.  Her reminder of the upcoming elections stands out in my mind.  As well as her urgencies [unsubtle I might add] to (1) get registered to vote (if not registered); (2) urge/help those who are not registered to do so right away; and (3) volunteer in any capacity with President Obama’s re-election Campaign.   She certainly did a fine job encouraging us the Caribbean Community to continue being an integral part of the CHANGE they began in 2008. [LOL, after all every vote counts....right??]

By the way --- what a glorious and victorious time for President Obama, now that the Supreme Court has upheld his Affordable Healthcare Act?  I would be remised if I DID NOT mention that there are parts in that Health Care Bill (Law) I simply do not agree with.  However, the highest court in the land has made a historic decision.  Therefore, we must move on and try to make it work for each and every one of us (in some way or another.) Congratulations to President Obama and his Administration, as well as the Democrats on such a historic victory!!!  CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL TEXT OF THE SUPREME COURT HISTORIC DECISION (Courtesy of Washington Post.)

   OBAMA 2012

Ops, back to my thoughts on June!  I must mention that this past weekend and week were awesome regarding concerts.

Beres_Hammond_Concert_Festivites_Etc. 029.jpg (146784 bytes)My duties at Reggae Singer/Star Beres Hammond concert on 6/24/2012 did not allow me to really focus or see Mr. Hammond’s performance; but from all accounts it was outstanding.  Which I’m certain it was; because over the years I have seen what a fantastic performer Mr. Hammond is.  His growth, professionalism; and the absolute love for his music and fans are so evident throughout his performances.  Oh dear, the joy he brings to so many through his music is wonderful. WOW!!!  Indeed, the Crossroads in Bladensburg Maryland hosted a fantastic show!!!

Also, it was extremely historic to see George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic perform at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on Wednesday evening (6/27/2012), on the National Mall in Washington DC.  Hum, you may or may not know that the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African American History and Culture is currently being built, and is scheduled to be completed/opened in 2015.  In fact, this museum had its groundbreaking on February 22nd of this year.

To open the annual Folklife Festival and its evening concert series the African American History and Culture Museum successfully executed their “Bring Back The Funk” free concert.  And what a fantastic job they did with the awesome exhibits, including the depiction of the historic hall that staged this free concert ~~~ DC’s own “Panorama Room.”  Most importantly, they featured top name artists: Meshell Ndegeocello (DC’s own), plus Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk; and of course they definitely brought back the funk with the Legendary George Clinton and his Parliament Funkadelic.  All hosted by radio personality Tom Joyner. WOW, what a superb show this was…truly superb!  By the way, George Clinton and his group donated to the museum their “Mothership” which was used during their performances throughout the years.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture was created in 2003 by an Act of Congress, establishing it as part of the Smithsonian Institution.  The museum will be the nation’s largest and most comprehensive cultural destination devoted exclusively to showcasing African American Life, Art, history and culture.  One of the museum’s inaugural exhibitions will be called “Musical Crossroads,” which will tell the story of African American Music from the arrival of the first Africans to present day.  Additional exhibitions will focus on cultural expressions, entertainment, visual arts and youth.

We are pleased to continue the excitement of our February groundbreaking with another distinctive event where everyone can join in celebration as we move closer toward creating a museum on the National Mall,” said Lonnie G. Bunch, founding director of the museum....

June this year was truly an intriguing month, historic this year; and full of fun and exciting.  Now, July is rapidly approaching, which means America’s Independence will be celebrated in a few short days – ON JULY 4th.  So Happy 4th of July to all of you!!

Yup, this upcoming Wednesday “July 4th” The United States of America will be celebrating its birth, freedom, and its INDEPENDENCE.  Indeed, in a few short days honor will be bestowed upon the US and its forefathers for claiming their Independence, and thereby bringing to birth Democracy to this great nation.  THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE CELEBRATING ITS 236TH BIRTHDAY!!  So join me as I fly my American Flag with pride; celebrate and commemorate this great country ... celebrate freedom and independence … celebrate “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

"The United States of America was founded July 4th, 1776, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence; and the annual 4th of July holiday commemorates the formal adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia. Although the signing of the Declaration was not completed until August, the Fourth of July holiday has been accepted as the official anniversary of U.S. independence and is celebrated in all states and territories.  [This document remains a leading example of how to protect the rights of the individual and it became the foundation for American values.]  There are a lot more to read on the history of America's Independence, so I urge you to PLEASE CLICK HERE for more and to also Read The Declaration Of Independence!!!

From all of us here at The Arious Entertainment Group we want to take this opportunity to wish you, your family and friends a happy and safe 4th of July.  Our sincerest well wishes to all of you celebrating Freedom and the Anniversary of beautiful America.  Please do have lots of fun celebrating the birth of this great country.

As I close, I must ask that you keep in your prayers and thoughts the hundreds ... upon hundreds … upon hundreds of people who are undergoing some major “trials and tribulations” due to the crazy weather and fires occurring across the United States.  The Southern states have been experiencing massive flooding, as well as tornadoes due to Hurricane Debby.  Raging fires have been consuming homes and everything in its path (including wildlife) in both Colorado and New Mexico; as well as in Arizona.  I understand here in my area (about 75 miles outside Washington DC) parts of Shenandoah National Park is closed due to fire activity.

Additionally, the most heart wrenching for me was observing "first hand" the destruction of an area/town in Maryland by a  crazy weather phenomenon the media and Meteorologist are calling  “Microburst.”

This "microburst" happened a week ago all over Maryland and Washington DC.  Unfortunately, the town of Bladensburg in Maryland was the hardest hit.  Roofs were ripped clear off buildings and was airborne; which eventually landing on parked cars across streets in Bladensburg (due to high winds approx. 90 to 100 Miles Per Hour.)  Many trees, and limbs of trees were brought down ... large trees unbelievably uprooted; windows in people’s homes completely blown out, and many damaged due to large and massive amounts of hail; major flooding due to the torrential rains; widespread power outages due to power poles being down as well as lines.  Indeed many are displaced [homeless today]; in fact the last count was a little over 600 people displaced; and approximately 24 buildings condemned.  Destruction upon destruction took place in Bladensburg, and my heart goes out to the many who lost everything.  Please do keep these folks in your prayers. [Click on the Pictures below to see some of the destruction I was able to capture via Camera.]

Bladensburg_Storm-6.22.2012 011.jpg (142713 bytes)     Bladensburg_Storm-6.22.2012 007.jpg (141085 bytes)     Bladensburg_Storm-6.22.2012 006.jpg (145049 bytes)     Bladensburg_Storm-6.22.2012 014.jpg (148885 bytes)

A “microburst” is described as a downward burst or acceleration of strong winds that hit the ground and spread out in all directions, sometimes accelerating further.  National Weather Service correctly notes that these winds – 80 to 100 mph or stronger sometimes are comparable or even more powerful than some tornadoes.

Here is another explanation of “microburst” from a local Meteorologist – Mr. Bob Ryan.

“Downbursts happen as the rain and hail generated in a thunderstorm cell begin falling and drag the air toward the ground, cooling the air as the precipitation melts and evaporates.  As a result, a falling bubble of cold air that can reach speeds of 100 miles per hours is generated.  Then BANG, the racing cold bubble of air hits the ground and causes the damage we saw.” [In Maryland]

Important Reminders:

1.  To the folks in my area, as you know this weekend the temperature will be in the 100s; so please try to stay cool, and drink lots of liquids.  If it's all possible, do stay indoors.
