Inexplicable Weather

We are experiencing the last few days of “May”, and for many of us during this month despite the natural beauty of the changing season with all its lovely flowering and stimulating growth.  Plus the purifying and rebirth that has been taking place all around us and in our lives; this month has been filled with major destructions and many unfortunate deaths due to the atrocious weather.

Yes, “May”…[this spring] has been a season full of dreadful storms, ferocious tornadoes, and major flooding.  Oh dear…the extreme weather with its fierce tornadoes have caused major havoc and destructions across many states in the Midwest, the south; and even here in my area…the Northeast.  To many of us it is “mind blowing," and we simply can’t help but question “WHY”?????

Gosh, these past few days have been absolutely crazy with all the activities taking place with the weather.  Reports are stating 80 tornadoes have touched down in a 24-hour period across Eastern Oklahoma, Northern Texas, Kansas, Central Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Iowa.  The most devastating occurred in the city of Joplin, Missouri where a tornado touched down and completely destroyed everything in its path.  Approximately 132 people have been killed, buildings obliterated, no power or phone service; and most importantly, hundreds are still missing leaving families distraught over their missing loved ones.  Oh, the images of the devastations in  Joplin are unbelievable, as shown and described by the media.  One reporter stated: "This town looks like the place have been destroyed by carpet bombs;” and another stated: “It looks like God picked up a handful of sea shells and crushed them in his hands and then placed them back on the ground.”

Hum, with all these crazy weather activities…perhaps "Mr. Harold Camping’s" prediction of “The Rapture…Judgment Day[on May 21st] is correct.  Clearly, these outbreaks of terrible storms and tornadoes; destructions; and loss of lives are apparent signs of the end of times…RIGHT?  Interestingly though, IT IS TRULYthe end” for the many who are suffering from these destructions; or even the beginning of judgment for many as well.   Don’t you agreed?

BlessYou.jpg (30477 bytes)We at Arious pray that strength is bestowed upon the people who are affected and is suffering from these destructive tornadoes…STRENGTH so that they can deal with what has happened in their lives and with their loss.  May they be able to rebuild their lives, as well as their homes; and may those who are missing be found safe and sound!

A Special Memorial Day To You

Memorial Day - A day of observance and remembrance of those who have died serving our great country (United States of America!)  Therefore, we must salute the men and women who have fought, and died in the service of their country.

This is the special time of year we all must commemorate and honor our veterans, and even famous Americans by paying tribute to all those who have passed on [died] while serving and defending their great country.  Yes, indeed this upcoming Monday (5/30) is the one day set aside out of the year to memorialize our loved ones, our ancestors, our neighbors, and our friends who died in conflicts and wars -- giving the ultimate sacrifice.

This special day is also a day to remember and honor the men and women who are on active duty...who currently serves this nation to protect our freedoms and our way of life.

We at Arious are thankful and proud of all the people who have served, and who are currently serving; and we ask that you take a little time to pause over this weekend and reflect on the military personnel.  Say a prayer for their safety; and most importantly, for their safe return home to their families.

"Remembering In Prayer"

WE Pray for all the brave individuals who are serving our/their country in uniform around the world.  May they be safe and protected at all times.

We pray for all our Veterans who have served their country when called upon, all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and those who have yet to return home.  WE Pray that they are returned home to their loved ones safely.

We Pray that the families of all Military Personnel currently serving are comforted and provided for.  WE Pray that comfort will be provided for any current military personnel held as a prisoner, and even to those who may still be missing in action.

We pray that continued protection and guidance will be given to the leader of this country...the Commander-In-Chief; so that proper decisions are made, and that he is successful in his military endeavors, as well as leadership.

We Pray for peace in the nation and throughout the world.

God Bless the Men and Women of The Armed Forces!!!

Officially, the Memorial Day weekend is fondly known as THE "kick-off" to summer and the start of the summer vacation season.  Many across the United States over this weekend normally spend time greeting and celebrating with individuals and family at gatherings, at cookouts barbecuing and having picnics, and even attending and participating in sporting events.  This is also the time many rush to the beaches to relax and to soak up the sun, while many others spend enormous amounts of time at their pools.  Whatever you do, please take some time to relax with friends and family, laugh, talk, and just have fun.  PRIMARILY, PLEASE ENJOY THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND, and be very safe if you are traveling out of town.

Additionally, in my culture this Memorial weekend marks the official "kick-off" of the North America Caribbean Carnival Season.  This weekend the following Carnivals takes place: Atlanta, Georgia Carnival; as well as Orlando, Florida Carnival.  I must also mention that out West the San Francisco, California Carnival takes place as well.  All the festivities start on Friday, May 27th, and will continue until May 29th.  I am certain many of you are very familiar with the festive Caribbean Carnival, which is similar to the "Mardi Gras" that takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Caribbean Carnival is described as a festival full of color, full of costumes (Mas), full of music, full of dance, and filled with an array of ethnic foods and Caribbean art.  It is also known as a form of freedom - of letting yourself go on the day(s) of the event, while enjoying the music, parties, and all that is taking place during this festive time.  It's simply all about FUN...LOTS AND LOTS OF FUN!

Indeed, Carnival is fantastic and extremely exciting.  Therefore, if you are heading to Atlanta GA, Orlando FL or San Francisco CA, check out the Carnivals and pay attention to the "mas" bands along the parade route with their lovely costumes.  With these electrifying events taking place Memorial Day Holiday Weekend is sure to be an exciting one.

Finally, in my country Trinidad [Trinidad and Tobago], this weekend is extra special; because on Monday, May 30th the country commemorates and celebrates "Indian Arrival Day" ~~~ The day the first Indian Indentured Laborers arrived in Trinidad from India in 1845 on the ship "Fatel Razack."  So to all my fellow Trinidadian's and Tobagonians Happy Indian Arrival Day.  To learn all about this holiday CLICK HERE!

"FlashPoint" - Presented by Hollis Lashley

Be inspired and Motivated to increase your Spiritual Energy.

Hello Arious Family:

Here's hoping that all is well and that the family is growing wiser. This week I begin a series of cultural articles in order to highlight some of the concerns I have, as well as some of those concerns which I have heard echoed by others in our community. As usual, I hope that the Spirit of the words would be understood, rather than the negative interpretations which many attach to the words which seem to be "critical" or "complaining," as some believe.

Hollis Lashley, Author, Gifts From the Heart

Be inspired and Motivated to increase your Spiritual Energy.

"Oil and Music"

I come from the land of Oil and Music. As such, I reserve the right to express the crude oil of my discontent when necessary, and to sing the music of my cultural harmony and consciousness in the many ways of which I am capable.

I will continue to revel in both the Oil and the Music of my spirit and flesh with full intention to use up all of my energies to create and to express my joy-filled awareness; so that I can die used up, with nothing left or withheld within the “I am” that “I am.”

Some are content to huddle with, and to go along with the group, even when opinions are expressed which are devoid of reason or truth; and even when opinions are bandied about merely to disguise shortcomings, and the inability to understand criticism for what it is meant to be.

Some groups, one must admit, have the right intention but lack the skills to empower the membership so as to achieve the mission and goals of the organization.

Others are merely driven by a need of some of its members to be perceived as being important and necessary, even as obsequiousness replaces the need for clear thinking, and character sniping is used in place of recognizing the skills and abilities of those who refuse to play the games of those who practice the herd mentality.

I was recently accused of complaining too much, by a certain official of a prominent group in the DC area. Complaining too much about the Carnival, and how some of its affairs are conducted.

Let me say without any apologies that I am willing to articulate my convictions publicly, about any aspect of carnival, and with any expert in the field. I speak of Trinbago’s carnival in particular, as it has spread world wide, and as it has influenced other similar expressions.

Mr. Webster explains that to complain is “to express discontent” and to criticize is “to consider the merits and demerits of, and judge accordingly”

Why do many groups find themselves in  the kinds of predicament they are experiencing, if not because of poor planning and strategizing which fail to consider the true dynamics which has to mirror the reality of conducting a people’s celebration of culture?

Organizational models cannot be randomly chosen to suit the opinions of leaders who may have the idea but not the skills of applying the appropriate structures to ensure participation and active involvement by the people who are to be represented. Goals and Missions and Principles must be carefully and clearly defined, strategies identified, and approaches put into place which can proactively prevent those roadblocks which will come up, whether anticipated or not.

Will you call in a mechanical engineer to plan a wedding?

He can plan to get married, which is easy, even if ill advised, but what about the entire affair?

The groom is African, the bride is from Grenada. He is Yoruba, she is Catholic. He wants African music, she wants Calypso and Soca.

Which church will they use to get married? How many African and how many Grenadian guests? Will there be two caterers or will there be one African and one Grenadian cook?  Alcohol or no Alcohol? Where will the reception be held? What role will the In-laws and Out-laws play?

And so on , with a host of other potential dynamics to be included in this scenario. A Carnival is like quite a few weddings, all happening on the same day.

Sine, Cosine, Tangents and slide rules cannot be enough. We need intelligence, creativity, delegation, and most importantly, the ability to see the details of the whole picture, from concept to activity. How many people does it take to do this effectively? Ask Jeeves.

My friends, humility is definitely not stupidity, although if you are stupid enough, you may be too stupid to know, much less admit that you are.

To express one’s opinion outside the group is not to do so from dislike or malice. It is often because one is not afraid to think for one’s self, regardless of the consequences of being misunderstood, deliberately or otherwise.

Many with differing insights have been labeled as fools and upstarts, and even as Complainers.

Remember Mahatma Gandhi? Nelson Mandela? Martin Luther? Joan of Arc? Martin Luther King Jr.? Jesus the Christ? Helen Keller?

I am sure that you are aware, many of them, and more than were mentioned, died for being different in their thinking.

Some of us are “Thinkers”, some “Stinkers”, some “Tinkers”, some wear “Blinkers”, and others?, Well just “Drinkers”, (Didn’t Cause)

Which are you my friend?
