Dearest Online Family and Friends: Truly happy to be communicating with you once again, and I hope all is well with you and your families. Wow, there is not enough hours in the day and even night to do all I have to do.  However, here I am "vibing" with you and loving it.  In fact, communicating and sharing with you on a weekly basis is a MUST!!  Thanks for reading, and taking the time to correspond (sending your comments and feedback;) and sharing with me as well.  I learn so much from you and I absolutely appreciate it!!!

Let's Light A Candle

With all the wars, news and threats of war, the rise in global pro-democracy movements, natural disasters, and increases of radiation sweeping across the globe; right here in the United states and across the nation --- in the next few days many people will reflect on the unfortunate death/killing of a great man – The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

43 years ago, on April 4th in the year 1968, a civil rights leader was assassinated…murdered by the hands of a selfish and racist man.  Yes, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – a Great Man, Father, Pastor, and Husband, was gunned down in Memphis, Tennessee by James Earl Ray.

Needless to say, this was one of the saddest days in American history; and the days and nights following his death was the most heartbreaking for many African Americans across the United States.

Join me as I reflect on losing such a great leader.  [Please note, the below are excerpts of my thoughts as I reflected on the “Saddest Day in American History – Losing a great leader”; which I wrote some years ago. ]

Monday, April 4th, marks the 43rd anniversary of the saddest day in American history.  This was the day the life of a great man and a great leader was selfishly taken.  Rev. Dr. BalconyofMLKilling.jpg (9515 bytes)Martin Luther King Jr. was gunned down by James Earl Ray at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, while he was preparing to lead a march for sanitation workers protesting against low wages and poor working conditions.  He was shot as he stood on the Lorraine Motel balcony and died soon thereafter.

This was the day all of America; in fact, all African Americans and many around the world cried and mourned for this exceptional man; who contributed to the civil rights movement, who was successful in turning protests into crusades, and to translating local conflicts to moral issues nationwide, and ultimately worldwide.  This man with his non-violent leadership and tactics succeeded with opening America's eyes and successfully breaking the segregation laws of the south, and most importantly attained racial and economic justice for blacks.

On this tragic and sad day many cried, while others expressed their emotion by angrily exploding.   Hundreds of United States cities, and dozens of major U.S. cities such as Washington DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, New York, etc. was rocked by an escalation in race riots.

On this sad day President Lyndon Johnson addressed the nation by saying

"I ask every citizen to reject the blind violence that has taken Dr. King who lived by non-violence".

On this sad day, and the sad hours and days to follow; due to these riots several people lost their lives, several thousands were injured, sadly large amounts of African American businesses were set ablaze, and their were lots of lootings and shootings.  Black America was clearly very angry about the assassination of their black civil rights leader and it was too much for many to bear.  Many from Dr. King's team addressed the nation and repeatedly appealed for calm and even urged folks to respect our murdered leader's commitment to non-violent protest.  However, others were hurt and was deeply angry such as "Lincoln Lynch" the United Black Front Chairman, he felt black America should adopt a new stance and stated:

"It is imperative to abandon the unconditional non-violent concept expounded by Dr. King and adopt the position that for every Martin Luther King who falls, 10 white racists will go down with him" he further stated "there is no other way America understand no other language"

As a result curfews were implemented in many areas around the country and the National Guard (soldiers) were mobilized to help with the violence; which was threatening to engulf the US in the race war.

April 4th, 43 years ago was indeed the saddest day for all Black Americans and many around the world; it was the beginning of a dark period in our lives and in American History, and a day we all will never forget.  Folks felt their only hope for racial economic and justice, as well as equality for all in America was taken away.

I am proud to point out Dr. King's life was not taken in vain though, because many of his dreams indeed have become a reality.  As he stated "little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers", but this is taking place all across American, and not only in Alabama as he stated.  Most importantly, an African American man is currently the President of the United States of America; whom many feel will lead them to the “Promised Land.”  Hum, for this I'm sure Dr. King would be proud as many of us are!!!!

43 years after Dr. King's death I oftentimes find myself wondering and debating the progress of some of the major issues he worked diligently on; such as: has this nation developed/advanced in terms of discrimination, race relations, equality and freedom for all, as well as justice for all…HUM???  However, I must point out his legacy lives on through the King Center located in Atlanta, Georgia; and is very close to where he grew up and delivered his weekly sermons; and even through his children who have gone on to continue their father’s work in a number of ways.  Additionally, I see the Martin Luther, Jr. Memorial currently being build on the National Mall in Washington DC, coming along very well.   It is expected to open in late August 2011.  Click here for details and to support! www.mlkmemorial.org

On Monday, let’s all light a candle as we reflect and remember the day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot down and selfishly taken away from us.  More importantly, let's remember all Dr. Kings messages and all that he fought for.

Light a Candle for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Noteworthy Dialogue

I hate the word WAR and so much talk of it lately is making my head spin.  It is happening so much that our minds are constantly, and is only focused on WAR; instead of the rapidly increasing reports of some foods, milk, and water being contaminated by radiation particles in the United States.  (All stemming from the Japan Nuclear Reactors exploding due to the recent Earthquake and Tsunami). Therefore, as I begin to wrap up for this week I want you to help me make sense of an issue regarding Libya that is plaguing my mind.

It is baffling to me that authorization was given by the US to supply arms (supply weapons) to “REBELS”.  Yup, the United States has announced its support, and WILL supply weapons to the “REBELS” in Libya....I say again “REBELS”!

Let's look at the meaning of “REBELS”: To be disobedient to Authority; to assume a hostile or insubordinate attitude to revolt. To renounce, oppose and resist by force, the authority of the ruler or established government to which one owes obedience.

Yes, in recent months lots have been reported about Libyan Leader Muammar Qaddafi; and throughout the years; but I still wonder WHY are Libyan REBELS being armed and assisted by the U.S?

Hum...well then...I wonder what if the "Tea Party" or even the "Right Wing Whackos" would one day feel they had enough, and rise up and REBEL against the US Leader/Commander/President; would he NOT do everything in his power to stop them…even if it meant some innocent lives being perished?  Nuff said!

I’m looking forward to some clarification.

Stay out of it America…Stop trying to always control everything, everyone and every country.  Clean up what’s taking place right here!  For example: the upcoming “Government Shutdown,” the prices of gas sky-rocketing; and the numerous amounts of issues plaguing this country.

As I close, I want you to keep in mind the people of Japan.  In fact, keep in mind that the radiation from Japan’s exploded nuclear reactors continues to cross over waters and have been detected in the United States.

REMEMBER: If you are interested in helping the earthquake/tsunami victims of Japan via a donation; PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR THE LIST I SHARED WITH YOU LAST WEEK, WHICH DETAILS WAYS AND ORGANIZATIONS YOU CAN SEND YOUR MONEY TO!  I again have added an interesting Facebook page created entitled: "Sendai Tsunami Through Western Eyes."  On this Facebook Page/Community you will be able to view all the videos captured (a day to day account) from an American Cameraman living and working in Tokyo. The following is some words from the Cameraman, PLEASE READ! "As you can imagine, the earthquake and subsequent tsunami on March 11, 2011, in Sendai (180 miles/300 km North of Tokyo) has had a huge impact on life in the big city. Through this community page, I share my experiences and thoughts, and I try to do my best to pass on information from the Japanese news that you might not have access to from your local news organization."
