Online Family and Friends: I hope all is well with you and
yours. I simply cannot believe
we are in the month of February already!
FEBRUARY…the month that highlights the achievements of numerous
important milestones in African-American History.
The integral month we take pride in the achievements of those
who contributed to the overall development of the African American culture,
spirit and the world.
Gee…it totally blows my mind how brilliant and victories African-Americans are! THEY HAVE TRULY ACHIEVED GREATNESS…HAVE MADE ASTOUNDING CONTRIBUTIONS…HAVE IMPACTED SOCIETY…AND HAVE MADE HISTORY governing, inventing, creating, building, healing, writing, fighting for freedom and justice, singing, networking, acting, dancing, painting, excelling in sports, leading, preaching, and absolutely excelling in a great number of areas throughout time. Woohoooooo!
years’ Black History Month theme is one that is very close to my
soul: Black Women In American: Culture and History.” Black
women certainly played a critical role in the making of our nation.
In addition to being our mothers; they were fighters, leaders,
workers, educators, and patriots. Oh...the struggles, heartache, sacrifices, strong will,
dedication, profound love of herself…her family…and her community;
have laid the groundwork for the women of today.
Oh yes…indeed her intellect and artistic expressions have
enriched us [women] greatly; as well as the African American
Community and the nation at large.
Positively, Black women have impacted America from its inception,
as well as the world; and I applaud them!!!
With this being said I am motivated to, and must share with you one of my favorite quotes from Harriet Tubman. A brave woman of strong will/determination and dedication; and one who took major steps to freeing herself from slavery, and helping free her people from the bonds of slavery as well. She worked very hard, and fought a hard fight vigorously leading many from bondage to freedom through the Underground Railroad. She is indeed a true leader and fighter. [Note: The Sketch of Harriet Tubman is donated by Corbis - Bettmann]
Harriet Tubman stated:
“Every Great Dream Begins With a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."
As I bring my words about Black History to a close, I would be remiss if I did not mention the sad puzzling death of Don Cornelius (“Soul Train” Creator, Host and Executive Producer); from a self-inflicted gunshot wound earlier this week. [How bizarre that he choose to end his life on the first day of Black History Month.] Mr. Cornelius was a true pioneer, influencer, and even deliverer of funk, soul and disco music; as well as hip hop. He brought to life the very popular, highly successful dance show he called “Soul Train” - A show that exposed artists and their music, as well as featured new dance moves; and most importantly exposed black pop culture on Television weekly. A show that crossed all boundaries and barriers because all races looked forward to seeing this show…every single week.
years ago, I was shocked to learn how much he fought to keep his show
“Soul Train” out of the hands of the wicked, and how hard it was
fighting a few big names in the industry to actually keep his show
running, and in the market.
in America and around the world are saddened by this lost; because
people of my age, older, and some younger grew up watching “Soul
Train.” Yes, I did
too back in my place of birth Trinidad.
So many of us all around the Globe couldn’t wait for the show
to air every week…we grew up practicing all the new hot...hip dance
moves; and was happy to see the musical artist, and to be exposed to
the music we so immensely loved.
Mr. Don Cornelius was a very important part of our lives and a
very important part of Black History; his contributions to black
history is absolutely immeasurable. It is a very illogical way to go, but I pray that he is at
Keep in your thoughts and prayers the family, friends and even fans of Don Cornelius. He was a true legend, and a man that was a pioneer for Black music, black culture, and truly provided a means for black artists to be exposed via his TV show “Soul Train”. What an awesome legacy he has left behind, and for this he will always be remembered! “Peace…Love…and Soulllllllll”!

months ago, I learned about an Exhibit at the National Portrait
Gallery - Smithsonian Institute that began running in late October of
2011 and will continue through April 22, 2012.
It is called “Black List.”
As the Photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders proudly states
it’s a: “visual 'who’s who' of African American men and women
whose intelligence, talent, and determination have propelled then to
prominence in disciplines as diverse as religion, performing arts,
medicine, sports, art, literature and politics.”
This great exhibit, done by Mr. Greenfield-Sanders and Elvis
Mitchell is of portraits...of people who represent the African
American experience in the 20th century; further it
represents some of the most dynamic and inspiring personalities in the
fields of politics, music, business, civil activism, literature, the
arts and athletics.
I have been
longing to see this exhibit, but have not had the time to check it
out. From all accounts,
it is splendid. In fact,
I was walking through one of the local nightspots and a patron stopped
me and asked if I had seen it. He
proceeded to share with me how great it was.
He even gave me a program of the exhibit; which only made my
desire even stronger to see Timothy Greenfield-Sanders tremendous
work. The following link
is to the site “The Black List”, read
more about this wonderful exhibit, and try and check it out before
April 22nd. http://www.npg.si.edu/exhibit/blacklist/index.html
know what? It’s FANTASTIC FEBRAURY~~~too!
Aha, on a personal level I look at February on an entirely
different spectrum. Yup,
February~~the Carnival Season in my country is in full effect, and
it's truly fantastically fun-filled. That "special kinda
fantastic madness" have begun on my Island of
birth Trinidad, and its Sister Island Tobago. It’s the beginning of fun, sheer excitement, drinking,
parties…fetes…limes…music…concerts, pan jams, singing competitions…and
more parties. This year
the Carnival fever is moving through my veins like mad; and I am so
ready to run away to my country to experience the full realm of
For some time now
my husband Todd and I have been tuned into the radio stations in
Trinidad, and have been loving the new Soca music released by various
Soca Artists for the season. So
last week when we were alerted to a Soca party taking place in
Maryland we cleared our calendars and made arrangements to attend this
event. Wow, I must admit
that I somewhat satisfied my thirst for the music and fun; and
further, I smile as I say it was awesome!!! I don’t think I
ever stopped “wining” [dancing.]
At the end of the night I was convinced I “broke my waist”
[LOL], and needless-to-say I became extremely homesick.
However, I absolutely had a real great time.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many of you for the wonderful Anniversary greetings. Your words are so kind, and they are truly heartfelt. Thank you so very much...truly from the bottom of our hearts we thank you.

This week as I close I ask that you read again Todd's Special Message about www.MyCaribbean.us - The Caribbean Social network that is truly splendid. See Todd’s message directly below to learn more about his www.mycaribbean.us.
We have been working on a lot of exciting things here at Arious Entertainment Group and we have lots of electrifying things planned for the future. For the last 9 years we have been communication with all of you through our weekly E-Newsletters "The Arious Grapevine', and for us it has been extremely delightful having a forum to express our thoughts and opinions on various issues and events happening in and around our community today. Most importantly, it's wonderful to be able to share it all by just one click of a button. Obviously, what I have been saying for years about this internet is true, "the internet is the new frontier", because each and every day new doors of communications are opening!
The latest breakthrough of communication is the social network. Social networks have become one of the most popular forms of communication, and they have changed the way we communicate in a very short time. Social networks have only become extremely popular in the last few years, and they have become essential for business and pleasure. I'm sure many of you are members of some of the more popular social networks such as: "Facebook", "Twitter", "Linkedin", and "MySpace", etc. A lot of people say they are addicted to their social networks and I agree. One can certainly become addicted, but they can also be a great tool.
After dealing with "Facebook", "Twitter", "Linkedin", and "MySpace"; which are large communities filled with a broad range of people from all walks of life. We thought a targeted network for the Caribbean would be very exciting and useful in uplifting and educating. Therefore, a few short years ago we set out on a venture to create the ultimate Caribbean Social Network, and today we are proud to of it's growth and are totally ready to take it to the next level.
M y C a r I b b e a n is a social network all about everything Caribbean. We believe this will be a great tool to link up the Caribbean community, people, lovers of everything Caribbean, and those who would like to learn about other cultures. The possibilities are endless of what we can achieve as a team at www.mycaribbean.us.
M y C a r I b b e a n has everything that the other networks offer, except our target is the Caribbean. In addition to this being a great tool in promoting and exposing the vast cultures and traditions of the various Caribbean countries; this will be a place to meet new friends, and link up with old ones. Being that My Caribbean is a community, this means everyone are invited.
We have been up and running for approximately 2 years, and the site is still wonderful. We currently have over 1300 members from around the world who represent the English, Spanish and French speaking Caribbean, which is really exciting! We currently have over 490 videos, and over 5,000 pictures. Some of the features of My Caribbean starts with "your spot", everyone gets their own personal page that they can design the way they like. It is a place to express and promote you.
Since this is a social network, there are many ways to be social starting with our "On-line CHAT" feature. Immediately and instantly you can chat with anyone on the network worldwide publicly or privately. Of course, this is a great way to save on long distance charges.
Additionally, for those of you who like to express yourself, there is a "Blog" section included in your network so you can speak your mind. There is also (1) an "Event" Section where you can list your events and invite your friends and family to attend, as well as track your RSVP's. (2) For those of you who like to have discussions, we have a "Forum" section where you can start your discussions and others can comment. (3) You can post your photos. (4) Add you favorite music. (5) Upload you favorite videos. And (6) Start Groups on subjects that interest you. Plus much...much more. The best part of this...IT's FREE! Yup, just like all the other social networks...IT IS ALL FREE!
I would like to personally invite you to come on over to www.mycaribbean.us and "MAKE IT YOURS". See you there, and hit me up so we can become friends!
Let me know if you like it email@example.com.
