Greetings Dearest Online Family and Friends:  Hope all is well with you and your loved ones.

The sun shining down upon us in all its glory was truly invigorating while it lasted!  However NOW, the rainy days are back and I find myself loving it.  It’s absolutely refreshing sometimes!  I know I’ve stated before that I love the rain, and indeed I do!  It puts me in a mood that I cannot explain, and it takes me to a place that is immensely calm and mellow.  In fact, I find it quenches my spirit; and to me there is nothing better than curling up on my favorite cozy sofa listening to the rain as it hits the roof and windowpanes.  Umm…the pitter patter sound is quite soothing.  LOL...Needless-to-say, my productivity is never boosted during these lovely times… LOL!

womanintherain-2UF.JPG (13349 bytes)I must confess though, these past few days I have been walking in the rain umbrella free (purposely,) just enjoying the drops of rain as they fall upon my hair and face ~~~ not having a care in the world about how I look.  Just embracing the special feeling that moves through me as I walk, and think about everything taking place in my life; and strategizing for the future.

Children_Playing_In_The_Rain-1.jpg (38492 bytes)Hum…as I write, I find myself drifting back to a recent experience where my mother was laughing heartily while talking to me on the phone;  through her laughter she explained what a lovely sight it was to see her (grown) son playing in the rain with his babies (her beautiful...adorable baby grandchildren.)  Just hearing their little voices screaming with joy and laughter in the background was delightful.  In fact, it took me back to my own childhood in Trinidad, where on numerous occasions my brothers and I would play in the rain (dancing singing, and splashing around;) while mom looked on.  And at times grumbled and cautioned us about catching a cold.  Oh, what wonderful and happy times they were!!!  My brother did talk with me before I hung up, and he expressed how much he loved the rain (as much as I do.)  We immediately began reminiscing about our childhood days playing in the rain and loving every moment of it (JUST AS MUCH AS HIS OWN LITTLE ONES DO.)

Woohoo, yes…indeed…I absolutely see why I adore Langston Hughes poem “April Rain Song

Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still  pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our  roof at night
And I love the rain.

As I stated last week: " October is not only the sweetest and loveliest month of Autumn~~~full of beauty and change; it is also inspiring and motivating due to it being used to emphasize and raise utmost awareness to several important...heartfelt issues."  Therefore, let me share with you the important affairs that are taking place this weekend.

You may recall in late August on the 48th Anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have A Dream" speech (28th of August); the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Monument was unveiled, and it was to be dedicated.  However, this important dedication was postponed due to Hurricane Irene.  This weekend that postponed dedication will take place, as well as the Martin Luther King, Jr. March for Jobs and Justice.

  • MLKMarch-Jobs_Justice.jpg (6192 bytes)The Martin Luther King, Jr.  March for Jobs and Justice with labor, faith-based, civil rights and community support will take place on Saturday, October 15th, 2011, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Washington, D.C.  This March is being led by the Reverend Al Sharpton of the National Action Network.  It is to bolster the President Barack Obama jobs bill and bring attention to the plight of the unemployed.   The march, which will draw labor groups and civil rights organizations, and it is expected to bring thousands to the Mall on the day before the new memorial honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. is officially dedicated.

Rev. Al Sharpton stated:

We will bring forth the masses who have not been heard in the midst of the jobs debate,  who was flanked by leaders of the National Education Association, NAACP and other groups...As the president fights for a jobs act, as super-committees meet, they need to hear marching feet. This is to send a message to Congress.

  • The official unveiling of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Monument will Take Place On Sunday, October 16, 2011 !

This historical and magnificent Memorial will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s national and international contributions and vision to the American dream...a dream he spoke of in terms of possibility and hope...and its pillars of freedom, democracy and opportunity for all [justice].  This memorial is one of the most prestigious sites remaining on the National Mall; it is on the northwest corner of the Tidal Basin adjacent to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, between the Lincoln Memorial and Jefferson Memorial.  Although, this is not the first memorial to an African American in Washington DC, Dr. King's will be the FIRST African-American honored with a memorial on or near the National Mall area and only the fourth non-President to be memorialized in such a way.

[Participants Announced for October 16th -  Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Dedication - Free and Open to Public, No Tickets Required.

Washington, D.C. (October 11, 2011) - The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial will be dedicated this Sunday, October 16, in a ceremony hosted by the Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation in West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. October is National Bullying Prevention Month - BullyingRibbon.jpg (4797 bytes)This month is used by communities nationwide to take an active role in the movement against bullying.  This past Wednesday - October 12th, was "Unity Day."  It was a day for folks to join together...join the movement to "Make It Orange, and Make It End."  This was the day folks were urged to wear orange in support of students who have experienced bullying.  Yup, it was a day that everyone could link together - in schools, communities and online to send a big message in support of those who have been bullied.

I feel this can take place throughout the year; so I encourage you to engage, educate, and inspire others to join the movement of ending bullying.  "The End of Bullying Begins With You."

Did you know?

Bullying is getting worst, and It seems to be happening at earlier ages and with more frequency.  Cyber bullying is also on the increase.  Below are some bullying statistics, cyber bullying statistics and school bullying statistics that will amaze you.

  • School bullying statistics and cyber bullying statistics show the 77% of students are bullied mentally, verbally and physically.
  • When it comes to school bullying statistics of high school students, 15% reported one to three bullying incidents in the last month and 3.4% 10 times or more.  Cyber bullying statistics are being compiled.
  • 23% of elementary students reported being bullied one to three times in the last month school bullying statistics say.  Cyber bullying statistics are not yet available for this group.
  • Recent bullying statistics admit that half of all bullying incidents go unreported.  Cyber bullying statistics indicate even less of these are reported.
  • 100,000 students carry a gun to school bullying statistics say.
  • In a recent study, 77% of the students said they had been bullied. Cyber bullying statistics reveal similar numbers.  And 14% of those who were bullied said they experienced severe (bad) reactions to the abuse.

PLEASE ALSO CLICK HERE TO FOR ADDITIONAL STATISTICS!  Please add to your calendar: October 26th is "Unity Dance Day;" where people everywhere come together in song and dance to raise awareness for bullying prevention by organizing a Unity Dance Day.  CLICK HERE FOR ALL THE DETAILS ON ORGANIZING YOUR UNITY DANCE DAY. Additionally, please keep in mind that we must raise utmost awareness to 2 (two) important and heartfelt issues that is prominent here in America and around the world; and which absolutely needs your support physically and financially.

(1) National Breast Cancer Awareness Month ~~~ A health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.  Additionally; this is a time to celebrate survivors, give support and information to those who are affected by the disease, and honor those who have died from the disease.)

Let's remember this special month, by joining the runs taking place across the nation, as well as purchasing a pink bracelet or even a pink ribbon; and do as much as we can to truly support the fight of breast cancer.  Remember National Breast Cancer Awareness Month celebrates 27 years of awareness, education and empowerment.

Please CLICK HERE TO READ SOME INTERESTING FACTS ON BREAST CANCER OR CLICK HERE TO LOG ON TO THE NAT'L BREAST CANCER AWARENESS SITE

WEAR PINK, RAISE FUNDS AND FIGHT BREAST CANCER!

AND

 (2) National Domestic Violence Awareness Month ~~~ During this month of raising awareness; we must pledge to acknowledge the intimate partner violence occurring around us whether it be physical, emotional, psychological or sexual; and we promise to do something about it.

Fundamentally, it is about power and control...experts believe it is a pattern of abusive and controlling behavior that one partner uses against another in an intimate relationship.  [Behaviors such as physical abuse (battering/family violence), sexual and verbal abuse, economic coercion and other intimidating behaviors.]

We must find a way to stop Domestic Violence.  In fact, I urge you to wear purple to bring awareness; and to really help with stopping domestic violence.  CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE.

WEAR PURPLE TO BRING AWARENESS, AND TO HELP WITH STOPPING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!

It is PLENTY MORE of the same madness taking place in Trinidad and Tobago as they undergo their imposed State of Emergency (“SoE”.)

Recently, there were serious hints at the possibility that the Honorable Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar would remove the SoE within the three month period.  However, that has not been the case.  Instead via a Press Conference late last week the Prime Minister announced that her and her cabinet had been briefed by security heads, Commissioner of Police Dwayne Gibbs, Deputy Commissioner Mervyn Richardson, Brigadier General Kenrick Maharaj and others, on what has transpired so far since the State of Emergency was imposed.  She further stated the following:

"They have said that they are able to achieve far more with the State of Emergency than prior to the State of Emergency. They see it as a valuable tool and weapon in the arsenal in the fight against crime."

"They have advised us that they want more time with the State of Emergency, and we have accepted as a Cabinet their recommendation that the SOE continues. They have advised that they need the curfew hours as they are...in the areas identified. So the State of Emergency would continue until we are advised otherwise by law enforcement officers."

Therefore, it is clear that she is pleased with the SoE.  However, she has not mentioned anything about her thoughts/decision regarding the curfew hours returning to what was originally implemented at the beginning of the State of Emergency ( Limited State of Emergency).   (Curfew start time: 9pm and ending at: 5am.)

I simply cannot "get with," or even absorb her statement ["SoE is a valuable tool and weapon in the arsenal in the fight against crime."]  I can't see how the SoE can be used as a tool to fight crime; especially since citizens are being picked up, harassed, abused and locked up for minor violations, etc.  All of which could have been done by proper policing.

Hum, so let me get this straight!  The SoE was used as a tool to fight crime?  WoW...so the rights of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago are revoked, and all their civil liberties are curtailed; as well as many enduring (1) revenue loss, plus job loss due to the curfew; (2) having to compromise; (3) sacrifice; (4) suffer; and being (5) humiliated, harassed, and in many cases beaten severely/abused...ALL BECAUSE THE POLICE OFFICIALS HAVE TRULY NOT BEEN PERFORMING THEIR JOBS ADEQUATELY, AND NEEDED TO IMPLEMENT THE SoE SO THAT IT COULD BE USED AS AN ANTI-CRIME INITIATIVE!  WoW...WoW...WoW!!!

[What taking place could have been done through normal policing ~~~ Don't you agree?  Further, the use of this SoE as a tool is FAILING MISERABLY.  Its failure is clearly being shown on a daily basis by the amount of crazy "illegal" arrest for things that are minor and petty.  More importantly, by the many that are being freed/released due to NO, or insufficient evidence being produced by the Police Officers.]

Hum, reading about the amount of crime that took place over this past week; placing the entire country under this SoE is really not working.

  • Still many of the 449 people arrested under the Anti-Gang Act/Legislation, have been released without being charged due to insufficient or no evidence.

  • As of yesterday (October 13, 2011) the total amount arrested as of this week is 4,385.  Of course 449 have been arrested under the Anti-Gang Act/Legislation (above I noted several hundreds were released).  Another 794 are for traffic offences; 217 are for breaking the curfew; and 420 are for "Enquiries" [inquiries].  The other 2240 arrested individuals are for: Outstanding Warrants; drug offences, serious offences; and a small amount includes homicide investigations (57); and others are (208.)  As for guns recovered the figure is: 127.

  • The abuse from Powers that Be still continues.  This week though, we learned Soldiers have been severely beating and abusing citizens both in Trinidad and Tobago.  As of yesterday (10/13/2011) a statement regarding 2 soldiers being court marshaled for abuse was made by Senior Legal Officer of the Defense Force Major Sheldon Ramnanan.  So far 10 reports have been filed against soldiers since the State of Emergency began.  Mr. Ramnanan said: Quite a few of these cases have been investigated, and extensive merit was found to take court marshalling actions.

  • Earlier this week Commissioner of Police (CoP) Dwayne Gibbs while Dwayne_Gibbs.jpg (25551 bytes)commenting on allegations that police were picking up detainees during the State of emergency, and were not aware of the evidence or its ramifications; as well as to what Trinidad and Tobago's Attorney General stated regarding: Police Officers needing to be trained more on evidence gathering techniques in reference to the Anti-Gang Legislation...

He Stated: “Our officers have gone out in very good faith in arresting the bad guys that are out on the streets,” Gibbs further stated:. "The Anti-Gang Legislation came in on August 15 and state of emergency was declared on August 21 so there was very little time to get an appreciation of the full understanding of it. “As we move forward we’re learning, however.

So clearly he is stating that the heartache, pain, and suffering citizens have been enduring, and even death in some cases; due to their crazy arrests, mishaps, etc. was just a learning experience for his Police Force.  Hum, the citizens were used as an exercise for the Police to obtain training...for them to learn their jobs.

HOW OUTRAGEOUS, ABSURD AND HEARTLESS!!!!!

As I have stated every week,  my heart goes out to those who are suffering and are affected in some form or another over this SoE.  Continue feeling free to share with me exactly what quite a few of you are experiencing…I am pleased to hear the stories and cries coming out of the voices of many.

I pray that the people of Trinidad and Tobago are given the strength to overcome the hardships they are experiencing during this devastating time.  That they become each other’s keeper.  That they work hand in hand in peace, love and harmony with their fellow men!

More importantly, I pray that this State of Emergency is re-evaluated by the Powers that Be, and is removed very soon.

Even though it is difficult during these poignant times in Trinidad,  I know many of you still have faith in your social ideals and values,  and most importantly in DEMOCRACY;  and absolutely have the capacity to deal with any difficulty  (such as what is taking place in Trinidad and Tobago today).   I know this faith;  as well as prayer will keep you strong and united;  and will carry you through this difficult time.   I strongly feel it is important that us the citizens work together NOW to build a bright and promising future for our country…we can overcome any task or difficulty that is placed before us UNITED.

One Flag,  One Land,  One heart,  One mind,  One hand placed together as one…”TOGETHER WE ASPIRE…TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE!”   I pray that the dreams of a new tomorrow come true for all citizens of my great country of birth.  Trinidad and Tobago.

I thank you once again my on-line family and friends for your wonderfully educational and extremely thought provoking feedback.    I can't stop thanking my husband  "Todd Mangatal"  for his great input regarding the many discussions,  research,  and his assistance in the conveying of this important issue.

Again,  I ask you to share with me your thoughts on this important above issue.   I am always delighted when I receive them; so please keep them coming in, as it helps me to learn and improve my way of thinking and seeing things.

CONTINUE RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING OCTOBER AS CALYPSO HISTORY MONTH IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

October is designated Calypso History Month in Trinidad and Tobago.  In recognition of calypso's incomparable contribution to Trinidad & Tobago's life, culture and identity.  The theme for this year is: "By calypso our stories are told."  This year's theme focuses on exploring the role Calypsonians have played in documenting the history of Trinidad and Tobago. The roots of calypso is traced to the 1800’s when the African slaves kept abreast of the happenings of the day as well as sought to preserve their identity as Africans through music and songs they sometimes composed on the cuff.

"Calypso, along with the steelpan, is probably Trinidad & Tobago's greatest cultural export. More than the catchy rhythms that took North America and Europe by storm (particularly in the 30s, 40s and 50s), the artform is a chronicle of Trinbagonian life and culture. It is also the progenitor of numerous other local musical artforms – soca, rapso, and fusions with rock, chutney, gospel music, and almost every musical style imaginable.

Calypso History Month was launched on Friday 1 October. The Trinidad & Tobago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO), under President Lutalo 'Brother Resistance' Masimba, embarked upon a programme of activities under this year's theme."

"FlashPoint" - Presented by Hollis Lashley

Hollis Lashley message to the Arious Family

Hello Arious Family: Much Love as I continue to enjoy the journey.

Hollis Lashley, Author, Gifts From the Heart

Be inspired and Motivated to increase your Spiritual Energy.

"Truth and Patriotism"

Patriotism appears to be the vogue at this time, particularly as it is expressed from a Caribbean perspective in these United States of America. Nationals from every Island State proudly boast of their origins with genuine and well earned pride.

Even here in the land of our voluntary exile, we are faced at this time with some political practices which begs the question of the constitutional preamble, “We the people of the United Stated, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare,…” etcetera, and etcetera.

Can we say that today’s political climate truly reflects, by the actions of the law-makers, a willingness to project the will of the people who elected them to office? Can we truly say the leader of the country described as the most powerful in the world, is being treated as fairly as all those before him? And dare we ask why?

Very often, we prefer to play those games which give the illusion of our being popular, rather than being courageous enough to speak the truth as it applies to our countries, large or small. We forget that the principles remain the same. If “we the politicians” and the influence makers, do not have the interest of “we the people” at the heart of our agendas, then, of what use is our so-called patriotic zeal?

As for opinions, knowledge, information, interest and affiliations, where two, three or more are gathered together, there will always be the shadow of disagreement towering over attempts at being civil. Babel is a towering infrastructure which has its presence

buried deep within the invisible recesses of our minds.

Many times we take the ideas of disagreement very personally, thinking that we are to be judged by our affiliations, our status in the community, (even if it is self imposed) our idea of our own popularity, and our ideas of being liked or not liked. Many of us truly believe that all this is important enough for us to spend our lives chasing an illusion of acceptance which does not exist. What does it really matter if someone expresses like or dislike of someone else? What does it matter if what you express is understood, appreciated, accepted, rejected or otherwise?

In the final analysis, life is lived as a vibrant and personal dynamic which poses the question and provides answers in every unfolding moment. And the questions are simple.

Who have you helped to move forward today?

What have you given of yourself?

Have you contributed more pain or more joy to the universe?

Do you see yourself as more important than anyone else?

Did you see the humanity in the homeless man you passed on your way to work?

Who are your enemies or friends and how did they become so?

Will your death mean that the world would come to a sudden stop?

Who or what do you love?

Do you understand Love?

Needless to say, some will interpret these words with compassion, some with disdain, some with understanding, some with total denial of its meaning.

In the final analysis, we can only live our own lives, and choose the conditions under which we can use these gifts which we have been given.

I choose to have no enemies, as I believe that all our enemies are of our own household.

I choose to be joy-filled and happy, regardless of external circumstances.

I choose to quietly assist those who may be called less fortunate, understanding the paradox of such a term.

I choose to appreciate every gift that life has to offer, and they are many.

I choose to understand that patriotism must not cloud truth, and I understand that God by any name is principle, and that I must do unto my neighbor as I wish to be done unto me. I know that the law is impartial. It works for me.

Blessings and good wishes, as the Sun of Understanding illumines the shadows of your

Self denial.

Walk Good.

We are happily counting down the days before we travel out of the United States to visit a couple of Islands.   We absolutely need a few days away from everything.  I don't remember how it feels to have no commitments, to not constantly being busy...running...running...running and taking care of this, that and the other; how it feels to have time for myself...quiet time; and to get uninterrupted sleep.  I am so giddy about packing and rolling out of this city to sun, fun, exploration and just to a simply good time.
