Hello.jpg (14424 bytes)

Dearest Online Family and Friends: How are you doing?  We hope you are doing great and following along the pathway you devised to accomplishing your 2012 Resolutions!

14 days into the year and we are on the verge of celebrating one of the MOST IMPORTANT holidays this coming Monday, January 16, 2012 [In my opinion.].  I say “most important,” because of the struggles and extremely hard work by many individuals, lawmakers, entertainers, civil right leaders, and many…many concerned people throughout the United States and around the world who successfully accomplished their goal of making the birth date of a good man and leader a Federal Holiday in the United States.  Further, I say "most important" because of the (1) WHO...the EXCEPTIONAL INDIVIDUAL we will be paying tribute to/honoring; and (2) the hard work this brilliant and outstanding individual completed successfully throughout his short life regarding injustice, equality, and even freedom.  WE WILL BE CELEBRATING THE BIRTHDAY OF REVEREND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. [Actual  birth date: January 15, 1929.]

INDEED, The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. must be celebrated and his legacy honored for his truly outstanding work and even sacrifices throughout his life.  He must be remembered for all he preached regarding injustice, and his messages of change through nonviolence; and he must be remembered for sharing his positive dreams for equality and dignity for all races.  Yes, he must be remembered and celebrated for all he fought very…very hard for.

Positively, we have come a long way this 44 years after our non-violent leader was selfishly taken away from us (unfortunately, in a violent manner .)  And I can securely say many of what Dr. King was fighting for, preached about, and dreamt about have efficiently been accomplished.  In fact, many in the US and beyond are living the DREAM…the TOTAL DREAM.  Undoubtedly, the road ahead is still very difficult; however, we must continue to keep his/the DREAM alive. Yes, we  must try our utmost to keep THE DREAM alive!!!

Above, I stated "we have come a long way," and we truly have; because while celebrating and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this year our minds will be at peace, and we can do it with pride and sheer joy!   YES, the ultimate honor was bestowed on this respectable...honorable civil rights leader a few months ago...A National Memorial Monument was unveiled and was dedicated to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in late August 2011 on the 48th Anniversary of Dr. Kings famous “I Have A Dream” speech.   Woohoo...this was awe inspiring!!!

Upon my visit to the site as it was being unveiled some months ago; I was pleasantly surprised...a bit shocked, and became speechless due to the magnificence  of the glorious Memorial.  Oh dear, I became quite emotional at the first glimpse of the splendid structure, which is strategically nestled among the Memorials of some great American Presidents at the National Mall in Washington DC (1964 Independence Avenue, SW, Wash. DC – West Potomac Park - Southwest of the Mall.)

(The placement was intended to create a visual “line of leadership ~~~ from the Lincoln Memorial, where Dr. King gave his “I Have A Dream” speech at the March on Washington DC, to the Jefferson Memorial.)  What an interesting address huh…`1964? [Referencing the 1964 Civil Rights Act that became a law…a true milestone in the Civil Rights movement and which Dr. King played an important role.]

For this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday you must find a way to travel to Washington DC to see this stunning 30 foot figure of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. brilliantly named "Stone of  Hope;” which is a true depiction of Dr. King…serious...stern...hopeful.  In fact, as I looked closer at the structure and focused on Dr. King's eyes; I could clearly see what a serious, and strong man he was...just an absolute fighter [which was depicted by the way his arms was folded across his chest.  Wow, It’s truly a magnificent sight.  You will also enjoy the 2 solid pieces of granite very near to Dr. King’s structure that symbolizes the “Mountain of Despair”; as well as the quotes of Dr. King’s speeches that are etched in the granite wall surrounding the Memorial.

If you so happen to read this E-newsletter before Monday, and you are able to make it to Washington DC or live in the metropolitan area; please know that the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, along with a few civil rights leaders and Federal officials will be commemorating Dr. King on Monday, January 16th at a brief ceremony honoring Dr. King’s legacy by laying a wreath on the foot of the "Stone of Hope" at Dr. King’s Memorial.  The program is open to the public, so perhaps you can check it out.  For the Official Press Release and more details CLICK HERE or the picture to the right (Courtesy of MLK National Memorial Project Foundation - http://www.buildthedream.org.)

Below you will find my yearly tribute to The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Please enjoy his wonderful quotes.

1) "I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality.  This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant"

2) "Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true."

3) "Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it.  Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it.  Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it"

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

1929 - 1968

U.S. Black Civil Rights Leader and Clergyman

4) "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

5) "The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood."

6) "There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love".

From MLK's Letter while in Birmingham Jail 4/16/63

7) "The past is prophetic in that it asserts loudly that wars are poor chisels for carving out peaceful tomorrows."

8) "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

As I close, I ask you to keep in your thoughts and prayers the people of Haiti who are still recovering from the most destructive and deadliest earthquake [7.0 on the rector scale] that struck their beloved island 2 years ago on January 12th.  It has been reported that this horrifying earthquake claimed the lives of an estimated 316,000 lives.  What a horrifying time it was for the people of Haiti, as well as many across the nation who had family and friends living and/or working in Haiti.  Even if you didn't have any connection to Haiti; you cried and prayed that many survivors would be found.  Hum, indeed everyone of us were glued to our TVs and tuned in to every program that focused on Haiti truly hoping and praying that many were found alive.

For some time now I have been hearing and reading all sorts of stories about this Island, and NONE ARE positive.  I do however know that many are still suffering tremendously, the citizens living standards are the poorest; and the funds you...you...you and me donated to help the people of Haiti has never reached their shores.  Without a doubt, quite a bit MUST BE DONE...NEEDS TO BE DONE for the people of Haiti, and (overall) on the island - specifically in the city the earthquake destroyed [Port-au-Prince.]  Many of us stepped up to the plate and donated, plus raised funds through our respective Organizations for the people of Haiti; and it sickens me that very little money reached the people; and very little has been done to re-build Port-au-Prince, as well as re-build the lives of the ones suffering in Port-au-Prince.

Just this morning my husband Todd was sharing with me a conversation he had with his friend (who was born and grew up in Haiti.)  This friend indicated he had visited 3 times after the earthquake struck; and from what he observed: most of the damage are concentrated in the popular city Port-au-Prince...it was nothing like he remembered it...in fact is was practically gone.  He further indicated: the rest of the country seemed to be fair and unaffected...pretty much how he left it before the earthquake.  Todd's friend was excitedly anticipating traveling back to Haiti to visit his family a week after they spoke.  We definitely intend to hook up with him to get an update on what he experienced, the progress, etc.; which will directly be coming from the eyes of someone who was born there, grew up there, still has family there, and love the place dearly.

Please continue being hopeful for the people of Haiti and continue to keep them in your prayers.  May the Haitian People's lives, which is obviously full of sorrow and despair find peace and happiness.

We want to take this opportunity to let our friend Wayne Cuffy and his family know that they are in our thoughts, and will always be.  Gosh, the lost of their beloved son Wayne Channin Cuffy a year ago was devastating and pretty overwhelming for The Cuffy family, as well as for so many of us in the entire community.

Hum, while talking to Mr. Cuffy a few days ago, I couldn’t help but mention that I knew the past year-2011 was very difficult for him and his family.  And the words he relayed to me was heartfelt.  It was clear that it was absolutely the most difficult year of his life, and he expressed how much he missed his youngest son "Chan" dearly.  One sentence that sticks in my mind that Mr. Cuffy made during our conversation was “whenever the family and I get ready to go somewhere, we are lost because “Chan” is not here...it feels like we are driving with a wheel missing.  Yes Susan, we miss him and it has been an extremely difficult year, especially dealing with the loss of Chan.”

Oh dear our heart absolutely goes out to the entire Cuffy family, and we pray that love and strength will continue to heal their hearts and lessen the pain they are clearly still feeling.

This Sunday, January 15, 2012, a memorial service will be held for Wayne Channin Cuffy.  It will take place at St. Mary’s Church, located at 7301 Annapolis Road, Landover, Maryland 20784.  Mr. Wayne Cuffy indicated he and his family will welcome, and appreciate all those who will be able to  attend this special memorial mass.

Additionally, we would like to let our friend Keith Preddie know he too is in our thoughts.  The sudden passing of his dear...dear friend Vonda Acty a year ago had left him heartbroken.  I am glad that he is trying his best to move on with life, the traveling to his place of birth Trinidad so frequently; and him enjoying his kids and grandkids.  Not to mention his new love...LOL!  We wish you the very best Mr. Preddie, and we are glad you are moving along quite nicely in life.

In closing we must wish our friend Teddy of Teddy Bear Promotions a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY.  Additionally, we wish you...Teddy much, happiness, success and simply all the best.
